1/ Could be as simple as a broken wire under a seat or as expensive as a new ABS pump I would think. Specialist help likely to be required and you need a special tool to rest the light.
2/ I had this with my M and it truned out to to be a dirty connection between the wiring and the sensor. It sits in the sill behind the drivers seat bottom and is accessed via the front of the offside rear wheel arch liner (there is a "how to" with pictures on here if you search). Easy enough to get to with the wheel off. Try this before paying out for a new sensor as they are £100.
Accoring to all on here the gauge is never very accurate even when working.

Thank you for your reply Thesurveyor

I will get the wire and connection checked out, yes I've seen the post on 'how to do it' :)

Thank you again

Abs is commonly a speed sensor, you need a diagnostic to identify which one or it will at least put you in the right direction

Yes hopefully just an ABS sensor - unlikely to be anything relevant under the seat though (that is airbag light or course).

I may be wrong (usually am  ) but that looks like a radio aerial connector on the end of the cable to me.

Was going to say that it looked like the alarm LED, but I think I can see that in the second slot from the left in your centre console. What is on the end of it? It doesn't look like a connector - looks like an LED/lamp of some description.

The Z3s have a common wiring harness, so where an option wasn't fitted, you will have spare connectors. Heated seats, aircon, telephone, etc. etc.

Antenna/aerial is a coax cable with a connector similar to a television aerial plug.

Similarly to Robert T, I would have guessed at the original LED light/button for the original BMW alarm system. Has your car had an updated alarm system fitted?

Hello

Thank you for your replies

I wondered if it was something to do with the alarm, as there seems to be an identical cable which is fitted in the console, the red light flashes when the alarm is armed. I believe its the original alarm on the car

Not quite sure why this extra cable is in the car or if it is indeed an extra alarm cable?
