I think a lot of people (for some reason) would rather spend a sizeable chunk of money via a dealer rather than via a private owner. Furthermore, if that dealer is a BMW main dealer they often seem happy to spend even more

Its also advertised on PH:

Perhaps its not selling because he said there were 79 S54's . Surely everyone knows it was 73 (ish)!!

Warranties from a dealer for a car that age are not worth much.
Nice car, good mileage.

Re: amazed this hasn't sold yet!!!
I know of an s50 that sold privately with very similar mileage for £14k a few months back. I think in a dealer they'd be around £16-17k at the current time (£18-19K at the beginning of the year), they do seem to have dropped a little, as have lots of classic cars ive been watching recently, I have noticed lots of classics that are seen as guaranteed ever increasing investments seem to not be quite so eager to leave the forecourt, there was a 911 Carrera 2 in the classifieds at the back of the last edition of classic and sportscar reduced ten grand!!, and it was a good spec good colour manual s model with low miles so the one to have! (I was very surprised to see that). perhaps the dealers have been artificially pegging prices in anticipation of all the pension pots being raided by people to buy the classic car they'd always promised themselves!!..., never likely to happen as generally the type of person responsible enough to have cultivated a nice big pension pot is hardly the same person to blow it on a car!!
I would muse as to weather the whole classic car market is starting to cool a little, it wouldn't be surprising as the rate of increase of late has been ludicrous, way to fast!, testarossas 18 months back where still reasonable £60k cars, now they want £100k+, f40's (way out of my league btw) where £250-£350k 2-3 years ago, now they are asking £750k for them. when the classic car market rises like that it is never sustainable, supply and demand only works when the "demand" can afford the prices!!!!, for every 20 people with £20k to spend on a toy/investment there's 5 who have £40k and so on and so on. as the price increases, demand drops!
however, IMO its not all doom and gloom for the M roadsters I think, firstly because they have never really "rocketed" up in price, I mean a really good (which lots aren't!!!!!) and mint UNMODIFIED!, 50k miler, if you could find one has been around £10-£12k for a while as far as ive been able to find, (two years ago i went to look at a so called perfect example, with 35k on for £13k and it was what id consider to be a dog!.., but i'd have paid it if the car was as described!!), and secondly because they are still actually so cheap!, like many have said before, find me another car, that's made by as prestigious a manufacturer, is as competent, so well made, so reliable (and they are!!.., we may know their faults but do some research on ANY vehicle and if you'd never buy any of them with the scare stories they All have!), so comfortable, so very good looking, so rare!, and can still easily manage a sub 5 second 60mph dash and yet only cost between £12-£25k!!!!...., good luck!

Re: amazed this hasn't sold yet!!!
Whilst I am not looking for a z3M (2000 2.8 is fine for me ) I am amazed that this chap knows all 4 previous owners were "careful"!!!! Or is it just me being cynical ?
Re: amazed this hasn't sold yet!!!
You make a good point. The problem with a lot of performance cars is that there is a chance they were originally owned by people who were anything but careful and thrashed the living days lights out of the car.cooknerkid wrote:I am amazed that this chap knows all 4 previous owners were "careful"!!!!

Yes i think you are being cynical. when i bought my M i phoned the previous owners to find out the way they had looked after the car and you could tell by there responce they were genuine. I think anyone who pays £42k for a new M would look after it.
