Alarm - help needed please

Post by Southcoaster »

I own a S54 and am somewhat confused. In the literature for the car it says that an alarm is standard. In the Thatcham records it states that ALL Z3s have alarms as standard.
I lock the car with the button on the key - so alarm set. yes?
To test the alarm, I unlock the the door with the key, not on the button, the indicators flash - continually until I put the key in the ignition and the system recognises it.
What I am not getting is any alarm noise - siren etc
I have looked around inside the front bumper and cannot find a siren, where is it hidden, is there one even fitted, anyone know?
Thanks

Yes, your car has an alarm, but by the sound of it, the siren has died. The indicators flashing show the alarm is going off, albeit silently. The siren is usually located directly below the fusebox. You have the later alarm, so there will be no little round key to disable the siren, as on the earlier model, so either the siren is said its last or someone has disabled it by cutting the wiring to it, possibly indicating previous problems with the alarm continually sounding.

Thank you for that, I'll try to get at it, look like water bottle out etc.

Do you know if it is a clever siren or could I just fit an aftermarket unit?

Hi Again,

Removed water bottlel and header tank. gave me enough room to get at it, security nut was a bit of a challenge!

Alarm unit has corrosive leakage on outside - hey presto.

Lots on ebay fotunately!

Thanks for your help
