Z3M side mirrors assemble solution

Post by superhuba »

Hi !
A was luckky to buy z3m side mirrors. To make ideal paint work i had to disassemble them.
The difference between non M z3 side mirrors is that the M mirrors have solid body, and it is impossible to separate the body from base with out saperating the inner pillar from base... Sorry for the grammar, I'm from Russia, but I hope everything is clear;)))

The pillar is connected to the base by sleeve whith spring which is locked by washer from the other side. And it is almost inposible to disconect the washer and not to destroy it.

So i decided to cut it;)

So now we got separate parts. Body and base can be painted.

But how can we assemble the mirror??
I asked turner to create a thread on the sleeve and to create the nut.

And some spare parts were created;))

Next step is to assemble all parts.

Hope this trick will be useful;)

I have some more z3m mirror project and i have to disassemble and assemble them twice a day, so i decidet to use the thread and nut solution. It costed me about 10£ per pair of mirrors

The first

It is my kit which will alloud to upgrade any non M mirror to M;)))

You can smooth them to a mirror finish using diminishing grades of sandpaper. Then you can paint them. You need to make sure that you use an appropriate material that won't react with the paint. Modern professional paint is water-based, but the stuff from Halfords is still solvent-based.

Excellent idea. You should go into production. There is a market as lots of Z3 owners want ZM mirrors.

Same if the price is right I'm in for sure, :thumb: currently got a broken driver mirror base being held together with tape
Can't justify spending £100 on a new eBay base.
