Z3m lsd diff cover

Post by zz3po »

Hi all
Trying to convert my z3 into z3m diff.
I bought a z3m lsd diff but it has non original cover that doesnt fit.
Tried to find a cover on web but it seems to be really expensive (more than the diff itself).
Does anyone got an idea for making my life easier or cheaper? Maby an e36 m3 or e 46 m3 cover will be a solution? Or does anyone know where i can get one for better pricing?
Thanks alot.

The z3m diffs are expensive and rare so the cover will not be cheap. Have you tried bmw to see how expensive? The non m cover will fit and should be fine. You dont get the cooling fins but will be ok unless you are going to hammer it around a track. Other option is to fit a small remote oil cooler.
Z3M with a few mods...and a little bit more power

Thanks alot.
I found and ordered an e30 cover from a medium case diff, that should work.
Only issiue im concerne about is the speed sensor.
My car is now driving a small case normal diff.
Will the sensor from that small case diff fit and give the right data to the z3m diff?
Hope someone will be able to help out on that.
Thanks.

Pulse genorator is the same on all z3 diffs.

May I ask you
a: why are you using an M diff and
b: how are you going to overcome the output flange and drive shaft issues?

By pulse generator u mean the speed sensor on the diff?
Im replacing every part of the car to z3m.
Want a z3m but we do not have even one here where i live, so im converting mine :) for that reason i guess i wont have to overcome anything :)

Yes I mean the speed sensor. It is also referred to as a pulse generator.

Firstly, good luck and huge respect for attempting it. I have done a lot of it myself.

What are you doing with regards to the trailing arms?

Thanks alot :)
Already replaced all visual parts, so now the car looks exact like z3m outside and inside.
For the trailing arms,
For now i guess i will not replace them, thats a future task... dont have all the money in one shot. should be any problem with that?
