I have owned for over six years a Z3M Roadster [left hand drive] and it was first registered to a main dealer, Autohaus Fulda in Germany, on 21-02-1997.The main agent in Germany filled in the servichelt book and in the fahrzeugdaten page under erstulassung they have put the date
21.02.1997. Since I believe that the press launch of this car was not until March 1997 and sales did not start till a couple of months later, it must have been one of the earliest to be manufactured.
BMW have checked the details of the vehicle on BMW's German mainframe system which actually show the date of manufacture to be
20/02/97 for this vehicle. Was it made in the states one day before it appeared in Germany?
Does anybody know when the M was first manufactured, I believe it was late 1996, and any suggestions on how I can find out if what I suspect, it is one of the first made.
The chassis number is WBSCK91080LD20252
I must finish with the fact that it has given me many years of fun and I trust it will do so for a considerable time to come albeit it with a little TLC.

might be an indicator!!!The chassis number is WBSCK91080LD20252
It's not quite the 253rd car ever made-I'd probably say it's the 253rd of that batch, based on the info *here*.
Am I right?
By the way the VIN info in that link probably isn't all right: It's fine for my 2.8 but the 1.9 (LA15118) was DEFINATELY an M44 engine (TIS says so!), that sheet says it should have been an M43?!?!!!
To clarify, it was the 253rd RHD ever made.komis wrote: It's not quite the 253rd car ever made-I'd probably say it's the 253rd of that batch, based on the info *here*.

As stated above LHD production started a lot earlier.
