Cruise Retrofit - 2008

Postby Chris Xoe » Tue 26 Aug, 2008 07:34

Hi,

A few years back I retrofitted Cruise Control to my 2003 Z4. The kit from BMW was just 'plug and play' with a socket already insitu in the cowl of the steering column. - just took a couple of minutes.

I'm looking at buyining an '08 car, but it has no cruise. Does the retrofit still apply or have BMW removed this easy route?

Many Thanks! :dunce:

Chris.

Post 2005 no longer an easy fit!

You can cut cowl steering yourself to save a part. Then you need control stick £76 and a cable set £18. Then about an hour's labour at the garage. All up cost me £200 to fit to my 2.5i Sport 2006.

Thanks for your reply.

I'd intended to buy the retrofit kit for the cowl and the control stick. I just wondered whether the wiring is in place in later cars. It sounds like not?

Can anyone advise if the wiring is in the loom, but just without a plug?

Thanks.

For facelift models (06-) the plug is no longer there - wiring kit is required plus coding at the dealers...

:D Retro fit cruise control to 2003 Z4 auto. What has already been said is true. All the wiring should already be in the car. To check this, pull down the lever for steering adjustment and undo phillips screw underneath, then remove the shell. Look for a small black wiring connection attached to the loom (there is a larger white one there also, don't known what that is for!) Now here is the good bit, I bought a cruise control switch from spares 24/7. £30 including vat and postage. The little black connector goes into the switch and the switch pushes into a holder. The lower shell has the cut out line on it and the space for the switch was easily cut with a coping saw and file. When you refit the shell make sure that the spire nut for the phillips screw is in position.
