Z4 boot badge removal

Post by Canman »

I am wanting to change the boot badge as the one on my new Z4 looks like a bit of water has got in and slightly damaged it. going to change it for a genuine one but want it perfect  , so does anyone know how to remove it ?

thanks in advance.

I find most things come off with a tap of a hammer, the only tool I own.

Leave it in Liverpool for an hour

I would wait to you get your new one so you can see how its attached.

Its probably just stuck on and so a little gentle heat and a lolly stick / dental floss will work a treat (or you can buy one of the pastic trim removal kits off eBay :D )

Kevan, heat it up gently with a hairdryer and use some fishing line or similar to slice through the sticky stuff behind the badge, will easily come off. Peel rest off bodywork and clean any residue off with tar remover/meths, wash and wax

Kev
I've got another idea....
Suggest that as an approved used car this defect is unacceptable!
It will affect the aerodynamic performance
Fuel consumption will be higher than expected
Therefore
REJECT it

and tell me where you got it from

The genuine ones on ebay are saying it has the 2 pins on the rear for fixing, that part of the boot lid is double skinned so cannot get to feel behind it . i'll try real oem to see if i can find a diagram.
thanks

According to a thread on Z4-forum the boot badge isn't just stuck on

Quote.....To answer you specific question:

Front bonnet is held on by 2 self threading nuts 10mm I think. Pull one grille out for acccess to the nuts

Side repeaters use 3m double sided adhesive. Warm them and pull off or dental floss type methods as above.

Boot lid is a real tight friction fit on 2 pins into the boot. Lever it out but worry about your paint...lol

You can pull it out by using any flat blade tool but protect your paint and work around it in different spots. I used a 1" wide scraper with some fabric wrapped on it, to spread the pressure and avoid scratches. Unquote

This might help ... the links say bonnet but item says boot

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

I got a plastic trim removal kit off ebay for just this sort of thing as the rear Z3 BMW roundels have same type of two pin fitting into rubber grommets and can be hard to get off without the right tools. I have used a lolly stick in the past though (just shave off one edge to make like a knife edge  )
