New car - coming Friday

Post by gazandjan »

Please play fair, our first post.

Bit excited order a new sdrive20i and should have it on Friday.

We have gone for White with Red Leather - the brothel look !!!

Extra are - 515 alloys, sports seats, heated seats, good old wind deflector and parking sensors !!!

It's the first car we have bought for a few years (both had company cars) and we bought it on the Bmw finance , which was unbelievable they give us a £7k deposit.

My question is after the 4 years we have a £9.5k ballon and can give the car back, however would the car with 60k miles at this age be worth more then the £9.5k ?

Insurance is killing us at £850 - we do not have any no claims and one of u a as 6 points.

It should be worth more than the 9.5k. Doubt you will put 60k on it in 4 years.

Hi and welcome, I take it you have purchased the car on whats known as a PCP (personal contract plan). The cars are pre valued by the finance houses through knowledge and experience. They pay people a lot of money to do this as they have to look ahead at what the market place is likely to be doing when your 4 year agreement comes to its end. Having declared that your going to be doing 15000 miles a year your monthly payment has been set higher and your ballon Payment lower to account for the car having more than average mileage at the end of the term.
The finance houses have there fingers crossed that your going to pay the ballon payment and keep the car or come back and part exchange it for the ballon figure and go through the cycle all over again, but they also have to think that you may just hand it back and walk away which is an opition you will have been offered. They will then sent the car to auction and hope it makes it's baloon figure back, they very rarely do.
If your still enjoying the car at the end of your term I would think without researching your particular car that a baloon figure of £9500 would make it a good proposal to pay it off and keep it. :)

Cheers
Dave

Cheers blitz, it will be used for work.

My wife does about 15k miles per year, so it will be close.

Can not wait to have a blast - we had a Z3 a while back and enjoyed it so much - can not wait

Looking at AutoTrader for a 2010 60,000 mile Z4 2.0 is a good guide to it's future value. This is, obviously, the buy price, not the sell price.

I'd start saving £215 per month, then you can't lose. If you can sell (webuyanycar, etc.) for more than £9.5k, then buy it, if not, hand it back and start again.

PCP is a great way to borrow a car, but can be an expensive way to buy one, unless you strike lucky and the experts get their sums wrong.

Pingu,

We will be paying £4.9k per year over 4 years around the £20k mark.

With £9k bubble.

If we bought the car is works out very cheap (deposit paid by BMW).

At about £33k including the interest payment on the £9k, if we borrowed that cash.

The car lists at £32k

Gaz/Jan, make sure you don't exceed your 60k mileage allowance because they will hammer you in fines for every mile over you go, I've seen people return cars and be fined to the tune of a £1000-1500 and more. Be aware! :)

Looks very nice.

Is it just in the photo, or is the Z4 badge lopsided?

Lovely car.
In many ways a retractable hard top is the ideal solution - better security, better protection in the cold and extreme heat (with air-con) and better noise insulation. When the sun comes out you can still have open top motoring at the press of a button. :)

That car looks good :D .

Usually, convertibles only look good with the roof up or down, but that one looks good both ways.

You'll be very glad of the parking sensors. I test-drove one without and had to put it back on the forecourt between two other new cars - even with my Dad standing behind me giving me directions, I could see nothing useful in any of the mirrors or by turning my head like an owl - knowing what my garage is like to reverse into I was rather put off. It is the complete opposite of driving the Z3, where rear visibility is usually better than front visibility. LOL.

Nice car and nice colour. I hope you get that fancy party-trick roof down at every opportunity.

Cheers R.

Great looking car . I very recently bought a 2011 2.31 high line in white with red leather parking sensors all round and other useful options are on it a real find and not bad Px on my e 85 roadster again love it just taking me a time to get pp transferred and to work out the complicated settings .
