Removing paint from plastic?

Post by Devon Z »

What's the best way to remove paint from plastic body components, the paint on my bebaged M gills has started to bubble in places so I want to strip all the old paint off before repainting them.

Cellulose Thinners, I've used it to remove overspray on plastic parts so should do the trick

Be careful with any type of thinners or solvent though.
Check on a hidden part of the component to make sure that it doesn't get dissolved as well!

Try it somewhere it doesn't matter
Some plastics may tolerate it, others may not.

Why not sand the area back? depending on how bad it is work from something like p120 and get smoother to say p500 before priming. If you got yourself a sander it would make the job easier. The problem with thinners or paint stripper is you risk damaging the surrounding area and substrate.

Edit: thought you said bumper, the gills can be removed very easily and with it only being a small area them a sander wouldn't be needed. A bodyshop will be able to paint them very cheaply also.

Park it in Macclesfield.
The chav's will have the paint off. I wanted the paint taking off the corners of my bumpers and it was done in no time...
