3M Paint Defender spray on film

Post by TitanTim »

Has anyone heard of or tried this product before for preventing stone chipping? looks interesting although it doesn't look to be a permanent solution unlike traditional clear bra but cheaper.

I've got paintshield Tim,

It's excellent with a 4 year warranty.

I had paint shield on the MINI Cooper S but it cost 600 quid, way too much but it did the job. Thought of trying 3m on the Z4 but then I will probably be changing at 3 years lol.

I don't think it's officially available in the UK as yet but you can order from Amazon.com so long as it can be shipped.

What about clear plastidip that you can spray on? It's like a rubber type stuff that can be sprayed on and peeled off without marking the paint.

I have seen people use it on cars as a wrap or to change colour but wondered if the clear could be used as some sort of paint protection instead?

Unsure about plastidip, I would imagine if spraying on the paintwork it will need to be perfect with a smooth finish, from reading the reviews of the 3M it sounds good however it looks to be at its best on vertical surfaces such as bumpers as it can drip when spraying so may be tricky doing bonnets where you need a perfect finish otherwise it could get messy :?

won't the application depend on how clean your environment is..how competent you are with a spray gun..and how well you have prepped the area........i could see many attempts on getting it right
the badness makes me do it...!

Soon after having my car painted we did a trip up to Wrexham, the front now looks like I had a run in with Bonnie & Clyde.

I will get the car painted again and fit some protection film for sure.

Had my front bumper sprayed twice now since I've owned it, last time was at the start of last year when I fitted the Reiger lip and now its littered with stone chips again :head:

But then again, it gets used every single day and takes a battering from grit in the winter so it seems but I will just have to live with it as its not staying in the garage for 10 months of the year :D

How on earth do you get some many stone chips? Used the Zed everyday last winter from October to end of March and not one chip :?

The last time I got plastered by a gritter coming in the other direction :-(

Maybe because it was sprayed as well meant that the paint isn't as hard as it would be when it came out the factory.

Cannot reccomend the paintshield enough.

Put 2 coats of wax on the film today. Feels just like paintwork.

Worth every penny.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

A lot!

It depends on what you have done.

For part bonnet, wing mirrors, bumper and lights

Around 600 plus at least.

But it's more to spray the front end (good job not a cheapie)

I guess if your car is showroom condition and you want it to stay that way it's worth it. Mine would need painting first !

I guess its worth having the clear film if you actually use the car, otherwise isn't it a waste of money? Why not have a nylon bra, and put it on when you feel the urge?
