Hamman replica front bumper

Post by Dino D »

Hi all,

New the forum but been a long time lurker since buying my Z a couple of years ago.

I am thinking of getting this Hamman replica bumper:
Image
Wondering if anyone has tried it or bought this exact one?

I've seen pics of cars with it on in a more real world setting and the more I look at it the more I like it. My car is Montreal blue so will look allot more subtle in the dark shade. I would probably make the splitter part matte black to lessen the visual impact of it but like the overall look.

Some pics I've found online of genuine Hamman and some maybe not genuine:
Image
This one is actually Estoril blue but I used a filter on the pic to darken to get it closer to Montreal blue.

I saw it at a lower price on nicedeals.co.uk but the buyer feedback from UK buyers is very bad. Overseas buyers feedback was very good though. Not sure what to make of that..
If I buy I'm going to try and collect in person and check the item. This one does not have cutouts for the sidelights and they do say to use a professional fitter. I guess mounting brackets and screws etc can just be stripped if the old bumper prior to fitting this one.

when i found it on the internet i think i put z3 bumpers in and it brought it up, i will have a look tomorrow (when im at work) they always say professional body shop to fit but i have fitted the before, they sometime dont fit quite right and just need a few bits taking of the bumper, i wanted the m bumper but been looking for a long time and they never come up and if they do they are very expensive this bumper seems a good price

I like that bumper just nice with the built in splitters. I would like some place on it though to mont some front fogs without taking up the air intake space on one though. I be interested though if someone does buy one to see how much getting is required to make one fit.

... have a look at the yellow coupe pic.... seems there is a variation...round fog light, and still a vent for the brake cooling intake...??

Just been chatting with the seller...he wants £.150.00 to ship to Johannesburg....and that is by seafreight....ex duty, ex VAT, ex paint job...mmmm...not worth the expense...If I want to change the appearance of my bumper, I'll chat to some local composites guys...

I believe Hamman sold the splitter and fog inserts separate to fit the Z3M bumper hence the variations in pics.

This replica is one piece though and no fogs.

Any one seen this bumper or know who makes it:
http://bmwenthusiasts.co.uk/forum/viewt ... =52&t=3425

On a more standard car in a dark colour like my Montreal Blue I'm wondering of this could be a good looking bumper (sans the double holes for air intakes for a smoother more subdued look). It looks like a an updated 6 cyl bumper a bit OEM plus.

I have bought myself Hamann front lip and M bumper (which makes it look together almost the same as bumper you were looking at). I had not fitted it yet, but there are few things to consider:

1) M bumper is about 1-2cm lover than standard OEM non-M bumper and M bumper with lip (you have it integrated) is about another 4 cm (if not more) lower than standard non-M bumper. Which means you will have very low clearance which looks cool from the front and very uncool when you have to ride over the bumps.
2) It also means, that proportions of your car might look not so well from the side, because bumper is very low. There might help Hamann side aero sills. Also hard to find and quite expensive pieces. Maybe OEM Aero side skirts could also help.
3) Then there are fog light inserts by Hamann - you have to source them additionally - also hard to find and not cheap.
4) There are also available front lip flippers, which are also not easy to find and not cheap (they are visible on yellow car in different colors).
5) If that bumper is ABS plastic - great (I doubt it), otherwise it is much better to find ABS plastic OEM M-bumper and Hamann front lip for it (fiberglass) - just for safety of your car reasons.

If you have considered all these points, you can decide if you want it or not.

And there goes my list of best looking front bumpers for Z3:
1) The best one - OEM M bumper (ABS) with Hamann lip (fogs and flippers with side areo sills fitted on car are a plus!)
2) CarLine Tuning bumper - (fiberglass), looks like OEM M bumper, but more aggressive (no fit for hamann fogs/lip) - I have this one fitted at the moment
3) OEM non-M bumper for 6 cyl cars - classic look, has integrated side markers
4) OEM non-M bumper - classic look
5) ACS bumper (might go with ACS fog lights)
6) OEM aero bumper
7) OEM M-bumper - actually I don't like it because it is not low and I don't like how it looks, I prefer non-M front bumper to this one.
last place) Veilside bumpers and other JDM style bumpers for Z3

Hamann also sold one piece similar to replica, just under another part number. There was also hamann version with integrated fog inserts.

BTW check this forum thread - there are a few good pics of hamann lip with flippers - you will notice, that it looks very low. Owner already decided to took it off because it is too low for bad roads:

Thanks for the info guys.

Looking to my clearance on the standard 2.8 bumper it will be too low with this Hamman rep:
Image
The standard bumper is 28cms tall
The ground clearance is currently 20cm

So if the Hamman rep is 37cm I'll only have 11cm clearance...
The replica is GRP so it it scrapes the ground it will crack rather than flex.

I think I need to find another solution. Problem is the other alternatives are very costly...

Hi deni2s,
Any more pics of your car with carline bumper. How much has it been lowered by and what clearance do you have now. Looks very low in your profile pics.

Few pics here:

http://www.drive2.ru/cars/bmw/z3/z3/den ... l/1594622/

It was lover than OEM non-M bumper for about an inch, not very low. I believe it has almost the same clearance as M bumper. I think in profile pics it looks low because of shadow. I sourced M bumper with hamann lip and fogs (and other hamann goodies):
http://www.drive2.ru/cars/bmw/z3/z3/den ... l/2941739/

But everything needs to be painted and fitted and if I will like the overall result, maybe I will sell carline bumper later. But I am not sure when that will happen - maybe even not this summer.

Thanks for more pics and info. It's not too low, just enough to be a bit lower than the M bumper which I think is too high without the flippers or lip spoiler anyway.

I take it this Carline is a company that makes bumpers I can just buy a new one from them?
If it's Grp shouldn't be as expensive as OEM M bumper.
But I suspect you are going to tell me that they are now out of production and as rare as M centre consoles so now selling for more than why the car is worth!!

I remember seeing your thread on here somewhere about it, maybe it's still there (the bumper!).
Was the fog insert a separate piece that you could pull out or was it moulded in with bumper and would need to be cut out (assuming its Plastic and not GRP).

They where separate units which the bumper was moulded to fit.

I think it is with some hamann wheels in storage

I don't know, I think mine was made in Poland (there was a sticker inside of it), but I bought it by mistake on ebay from UK as it was advertised as M bumper.
It might be this one - http://www.spoiler-shop.com/en/BMW/Z3/C ... MW-Z3.html
At least on pictures it looks identical.

I had seen a lot if pictures of M centre consoles, much more than pictures of cars with carline bumpers, so I believe carline bumper could be more rare as M centre console :D

Just wondering out aloud how hard it is modify these GRP parts.
I'm thinking as I have adjustable suspension so I can raise my ride height a touch and have been wanting to raise the rear anyway as it always looked a bit saggy from the side (but perfect from the rear, low and wide..).
So that gets me a bit more clearance on the front.
Then wondering if that's not enough could I relatively cheaply have the bumper altered by the Bodyshop that sprays it for me.
Then if the GRP can be modified I can put these sills on. I need to replace the sills and with the new bumper need a deeper sill. The ones below I like except for the gills. Maybe those can be cut out or something. Then I'd have deep sills to go with the bumper.

I found what seems to be the main seller for these bumpers and skirts in UK:
http://unqshop.com/BMW.Z3

Pricing is a bit less than eBay sellers.
I'll check if they have parts in stock as Id like to see the finish of the Grp before purchase to see if it is as smooth as in the pics. I've noticed that if Grp is done well it looks like a OEM part but if it's a bit wavy it looks very aftermarket.
