My Modded Z3, The way I think it should be done ???
Hi guys and Gals haven't been on for ages but I have changed my Z3 from how it used too look since I last posted on here so thought I would put up this post and get some feedback after seeing a post of modded Z3's a little while ago on here.
A friend and I decided that would try and find some great places for pics as in industrial but didn't really manage to find anywhere we could get into of that sort, so here's some of the ones we did take OR should I say my friend took. Some pics are small due to photobucket resizing them as they where over 1Mb
Oh and I've added some of how it used too look because I saw them today and just thought OMG that did look Bad
And now for the way it has been before i finally got this look
well there you go, haven't got any pics of it completely standard but gives you an idea of how it has changed since I have owned it and well lets just say I love the new look and it aint going to change MAYBE !!!!

Working from top down.spokey wrote:Sorry Russ... ... which is before and which is after?
Top is how it is now and as you work your way down that is how it has been in the past obviously bottom one as close as standard as i could find pic wise.
gone through 2 suspension kits, 3 sets of wheels (4 if you include spraying these ones) boot spoiler, front lip, eyebrows, front grills, 2 sets of side grills, bonnet/boot and wheel badges, 2 lots of wiper kits, 4 reg plate changes, 2 front light changes, 3 lots side repeaters, 3 lots of rear lights, 2 exhausts, 1 cat, upgraded discs and pads all round and have gone from 140Bhp to 170Bhp THINK THATS IT Maybe be some other little bits I forgot ??

Actually, I like both the old incarnation (apart from the eyebrows) and the new one (apart from the rear lights).

I really dig the blacked out look. I'm surprised at just how much I like it, honestly, as I've always dug the chrome nostrils of the stock version. The wheels are great. The eyebrows, which I'm normally not huge on, are suitably subtle. Very nice, overall. I approve.
But the old way wasn't terrible, either. I don't love the old wheels, nor the chrome gills, but the overall black-and-chrome thing can work well, I think. That one just veered a bit more towards the gauche than I prefer.

Bought a brushed steel kit off ebay CRAP and a waste of money so that didn't go on, Neither did the gear knob I ordered, same with the brush steel foot pedals (should have bought the ones Foxy did).komis wrote:I LOVE IT
Very very nice, well done!!!! Any work on the interior?
Tried getting 3 sets of seats off Ebay in black but to be honest I think I was outbid by the owner or they did not reach reserve so Nope unfortunately Interior is still the same Same as the engine really not much done there, thought of Nos but decided wasn't for the Z and really want a super charger but at £2500 am thinking I have gone as far as I can with this car. Unless I source a Eaton supercharger and get the brackets custom built then have it remapped.

No complaints at all from me about a few bits of subtley placed chrome, but that 'blackout' looks evil! I really like it.
Some individual pieces wouldn't be my choice, but the overall package works really well.
The previous incarnations looked good, but you've created something original and (dare I say ) to my mind, in keeping with the lines, style and class of the Z3.
Congrats Yella Fella.

Hi Yella
Looking good, looks like Knight Rider. Wondered how you went from 140bhp to 170bhp if the engine is not mapped etc unless i missed out something but the car looks superb

Hi Yella,
Welcome back!
Your Zed really looks great. Love the stealth look, and I am very anti-modding. As Alfie says, you have not detracted from the Zeds gorgeous lines, while you have created something very different.
I must say also that the shine appears to have improved too as the car has been changed.
Well done. You have a big thumbs up from me.
Have you had any engine work done, or an ECU remap? Looking like that, your Zed should get a performance boost.

Well I'm happy with the results and very happy with the Positive feedback Thanks People
Just need some new internals, supercharger and a 75bhp Nos injection and we'll have this little 1.9 up too 340BHP IF I only had the money I would
Same design, even the same factory
Have a look at http://www.dpmotorsport.net/home/home.htm Give me a couple of days to get in contact with my contact person there, to see if I can get some sort of discount if your interested.
PM me if you are.

Right poeple this is why I posted pics of my Z, This thread cracks me up shame it was locked and really wish I'd posted on it whilst it was open.
viewtopic.php?t=9331&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Some Points of view I think are Valid on the thread.
I wouldn't say that we are stuck in to the stock mentality, well apart from one or two and you'll probably find alot of people on this forum have had various mods done to their zed, be it lowered or different alloys, or spoilers, etc, but I think most are tasteful whereas the examples you've posted up are waaaay OTT and plain distasteful and the reason for that is people on this forum tend to have a passion for the Zed, i.e. they bought it and love it because of the way it was when they first saw it or drove it where as you and your friends seem to have a passion for modding, which there isn't anything wrong with but it means that the Zed doesn't mean as much to you as modding does and it's a way for you to express yourself and your creativity, but if you didn't have the zed, you'd do it to another car whereas most of us (I'm assuming again) love our Zeds for the way they are and any cosmetic mods we make tend to be subtle as not to destroy the main thing that drew us to the zed in the first instance.
Look guys ok maybe my previous comments were a bit out of line so i appologise but let me illustrate an example to try and explain what we mean or why we do what we do. Have you ever travelled on the road and seen another boring lancer or magna. Or in this scenario looked at your bimmer. Dont get me wrong when i first got the car i was happy with it. Then eventually everyday you look at it you wished it looked a little different cause you were tired of how it looked. Or how it sounded and you wanted a little more base. Or completely disliked an aspect of your vehicle and wanted it changed like its brown spotted interior. Or maybe seen another nice looking zed on the net and wanted that. This is why we do what we do. And yes companies like bmw spend big bucks on designing vehicles. But history has proven that just because a company has spent big bucks on a design of a particular vehicle doesnt mean its perfect or suits and individual perfectly like a shoe to a foot. I mean look at the bmw 316 now thats ugly. And even on some of the bigger european cars they use freakin hub caps (like the e-class). I cant stand hub caps or stock rims.
Well what can we say all I can say there is A certain amount of modding that can be done to a car before it becomes too individual and doesn't appeal to the masses, My car is modded just enough for me I couldn't do anymore to it without ruining it, Z3's are subtle and need slight changes too make them your own but keeping them as they were intended almost. OK a few of my mods are not too poeples tastes but I get away with it due to the overall look, all I can say is each car has it's limits before it becomes personal once it is personal it becomes a car that will gain remarks from others either good or bad depending on the person involved giving those comments at the time. IF you want your car to stand out go ahead mod away but you will have to expect the good and the bad with that OR do it so that appeals to all.
I have had poeple that hate Z3's praise my car, I get waves and points all the time, I'm rather impressed that from this forum I have pretty much 90% positive feedback over all and well lets just say I didn't mod the car for the masses I didn't mod it for the Z3 forum I changed into something i THOUGHT looked right and not over the top.
Well thats my little rant over and thanks to all your replys Am well happy that on every site I have nothing but positive feedback , I guess this was the tester knwoing how you guys hate modding

Having the front end resprayed again now I don't have to use it for work stone chips will not be an everyday thing, So I will decide IF I prefer the car with or without I am not a 100% on them to be honest. Pics will tell me when I get the next set done, Purely because they do not meet exact on both sides and this bugs me. So we shall see they may well end up in the shed with the rest of the stuff I bought but decided against, Such as he side skirts I sent back because I hated them.stu wrote:Looks very moody - a great look IMHO.
Spokey's right (did I just say that) - loose the eyebrows please
BTW, is it faster yet?
Faster, Erm it will out perform a 2.2 and maybe due to gear ratio keep up with a 2.8 for a little while if thats any help. But not as fast as I would like, really want to turbo or to supercharge it.
Supercharger easiest option but expensive, turbo not so expensive but alot of hassle to get the right set up then finding a suitable place to attain an oil feed from, means drilling into the engine.M-Lump is an obvious choice but have no idea how easy that would be to do ?? Nos cheap and easy but without a controller would be a nightmare around corners and thats what it is great at, sits its self nicely behind bigger HP jap cars on the corners all though they do tend to fire off on the straights
But always knew it was more show than go when I bought a 1.9.

Looks great Yella, I know what you mean about the eyebrows I don't mind the outside edge so much it's the inside squared off edge that bugged me at first but I liked the overall effect so I've got used to it.
I like Schnitzer wheels and they look great with the black centers.
Keep up the good work, and all that really matters is that you like it

Makes me VERY curious to find an all-black rim and slap a whitewalled tire on it...

On a blacked-out, triple black car, I suspect I'd like it.
But since I'm still shopping for my Z3 and black is only one of the seven or eight colors I'm willing to buy...there's a relatively slim chance that I'll end up in a position to do it.

Black & white badges all round (as on ebay) might be a nice touch.
Where did you get your eye lids & front lip spoiler from? Have been lookin for ages but cant find a good quality & well priced kit anywhere!
The Eyebrows and Front lip spoiler came from BMHEAVEN.......BEWARE though I also bought a set of side skirts that never appeared and they refused to refund my cash saying that they out laid for them so basically I wasn't going to get the money back even though they had yet to send the side skirts, Had to get the credit card company to deal with it. Other items did arrive as said and on time though. So could have been a 1 off ???
Have got the Black and white Carbon badges all round except the side grills as have not found the correct size that will insert, Slight mod may well sort that out.
Hope that helps you out.

Well I thought I would add some photo's taken from a recent photoshoot for a feature on my local website www.lincstorque.com, My car was chosen to get rid of the Jap orientated feel the site had before it was revamped and should be online in the next few weeks The pics had to be downsized by 75% as they were rather large
Before the shoot I used the meguirs 3 step wax system but to be honest didn't have the time to get it looking as good as I wanted but the pictures came out rather well despite that.
If anyone else in the Lincoln area wishes to use the same site to get the setting shown it is round the back of B&Q's right at the bottom I chose that place as i wanted the old rusty workhouse look as a backdrop.
Glad the cheap Scudo Tyres will be gone as of monday
