What's The Point Of......? (Off Topic)

Postby RobBruce » Wed 24 Jan, 2007 11:05

I'm sure there's a reason behind most things, but some 'inventions' puzzle me. So I thought I'd start a thread on things that confuse/annoy/befuddle you, and make you ask 'what's the point?'

My current bug-bear: Decaffeinated Espresso!

WHY? :?

Back to Rob's question: I have a friend who drinks (I kid you not!) decaf latte with skimmed milk.

Why bother?

Believe me Andy, there's a big difference.

Kaliber is (was?) NON alcoholic.
However, most others are LOW alcohol.

I once had 11 pints of Swan Light at a party and thinking it was NON alcoholic, I drove home.....
Needless to say, the car was weaving about all over the road and my judgment was....erm....embarrassing to say the least! And to add insult, I woke up the following morning with one of the worst hangovers I've ever had!
So much for non alcoholic lager....!

What's the point in owning a 2006 Toyota Landcruiser in the centre of this town? I can't get into my parking space squarely next to it.

I have new neighbours with a baby and a 2006 (56) 5 door LWB Landcruiser. A thoroughly obnoxious car. More like a van than a car in size.

Kaliber low (non) alcohol lager.

For people who don't want to drink & drive or perhaps for alcoholics like me who know they can't drink but still like the taste.

why do dual fuel cars get let off congestion charges... think that one through.. congestion not emmission charging... most dual fuel cars tend to be converted barges like cherokees, land rover recovery's or volvo tanks.. sureley they take up more space !!!

With some brands, such as Bud Lite, yes, I think it does.

As I discovered later....Swan Light actually meant 'light' in alcohol.

And in most of the rest of the world, 'light beer' means what we call lager.

I think Swan Light was about 1.5%
Fosters is about 3.5% (yep, the old "Sex in a Punt" gag.... :D )
And as a bench mark, Stella is 5.2%

What's the point of.........

...climate change levies, green taxes and a whole other vast array of CO2 dependant charges when China are building a fossil fuel power station every week and America won't even agree on a cap.

Actually it's a retorical question, I know what the point is

The dimmer for the dashboard lights.

I have never found a situation where I think "the dashboard is dazzling me I need to turn it down a bit 'cos I cant see out of the windscreen..."
There are usually car headlights coming the other way that I would rather dim, so if I can live with them, I can live with a faint glowing dashboard lamp.
