2. You fill up every three days.
3. The size of your grin is directly proportional to the amount of boost you’re on.

I heard that the Z3 never came with the Nikasil engines as they were built in the US? - when I asked before I was told this and also advised you can check by looking on the block for the pear shaped plug... (with = non nikasil blocks, without (i.e. just casting blank) then it was Nikasil)..

Your car looks good BTW and I'm sure you won't have a problem shifting it! - I woudl've probably bitten your hands off if it was before I had bought mine! LOL!! :)

Good luck with the sale!!

That's what has been bugging me, you sure it was Nikasil Marc?

I bought this car about 4 months ago as a none runner and just put it back on the road today.

At some point a numpty has owned it and messed around with a few things and its been off the road for a few years but it seems largely in the same condition.

Its nice to see its got history!

Sorry I am a bit slow replying, I don't internet often.

When I got it it was just about running but it really struggled. It would occasionally cut out and was over fuelling terribly. Since then I have taken the full intake pipework off from the throttle body to the supercharger and refitted it so that I know there is no leaks at all. Next I took the Idle control valve off and cleaned it out. Then I changed the air flow meter and lambda, fixed an exhaust leak as well as a new set of NGK plugs ( 6 heat range as I've used them before on similar cars and had good results). Also fitted a new alternator and given it an oil and filter change. The car runs a million times better but its still not perfect. It still hesitates a little below 1500rpm, it wont keep a steady idle and it overfuels at the top end. I've left the ICV unplugged as I've found the car runs better without. I'm getting close to the point where I am going to have to get someone with a computer to check up on it or get it on a dyno but I'm getting there.

Sorry I don't have any pictures at the moment but I will get some up soon. Might even get a video up too.

The BMW straight 6's aren't the best sounding engines but when it starts coming on boost you can hear the compressor like a jet turbine and it adds a harder note to the exhaust, building up as boost pressure does. It's lovely really.

These setups have to be properly mapped on a dyno. Find a specialist with experience in bmw mapping.

Sorry Rafolian. That's not meant to be offensive, I just don't think they sound that good. Some of the S series engines sound good with open trumpets but I don't think the M series engines sound that good. I'm not trying to say they're a bad engine or anything, it's just personal preference.

Stevov, as far as I am aware the car would have had a suitable map as part of the AA kit along with suitable injectors etc. It definitely has the right injectors. I have a friend who can check the fuel trimmings and a few other things which will should help determine a bit more about the map.

I have been told it could be a vanos issue.

Unlikely to be a vanos issue, more likely I'd have through some dodgy reading from a sensor causing the mis-fuelling?

Is it definitely showing no errors on the Engine Management system? FYI, not all errors show a light, so could still be a number of factors.

Also, I had an issue with the rubber bellows thing on my inlet was leaking, but I couldn't find the leak as it had to be being driven under boost to leak! A good mechanic friend (rubber fetish I reckon) found it whilst 'having a good feel around!!

Mark's car was nice and quick, but I'm not a fan of the AA system, hence went ESS route with only 7psi via a Vortech V2. Still runs like a dream, but the exhaust will be leaving us 2016 to be replaced by something more interesting.

I agree Stu, It's not perfect, but it was already on the car so can't complain. Its definitely effective at what it does though, and it's nice to know there is plenty of head room to take things further. I'm prepping the car for track use and it's nice to know the next stage is only a metal headgasket, a smaller pulley and maybe a little water/meth to keep things cool.

I've had a little luck with the car. I've tried two different Air Flow Meters in the past, a friends from his E36 325 and a '96 328i which matched the one that was on the car. By chance one day I saw a '98 728i one and I noticed the plug was the same. For the sake of £30 I thought why not. So I bought it and it seems to have cured it. I'm not saying for definite yet, but It feels like a completely different car. I've even plugged the ICV back in and its behaving as it should, so fingers crossed! Maybe there is a difference in the flow meters, or maybe the others I tried where also broken but either way, it's made me enjoy driving the car again!

Mine gets through plenty of AFM's too, they're not cheap OEM, so I think you're pretty lucky to find a good one second hand!

Glad its running better anyway.
