Sadly, however, it did not live up to expectations. Oddly enough, going downhill was slightly better, but although it was very bendy, it wasn't very long.

It is also a bloody long way from anywhere, so if you're in the neighbourhood, it's worth doing it just to try out the King John Inn, but otherwise I wouldn't bother. The A686 from Penrith to Alston is a much better bet.
