Brake disk size on a 2.8

Post by VikingSven »

My Z3 is a 1999 2.8L. I've bought some replacement front disks, and which are 300mm, but the garage has just told me they're too big. The company I bought them from has checked all their product listings for my spec car, and all the manufacturers list it as needing 300mm disks.
Any idea what size they should be?

Cheers :)
Just been searching around, some disc manufacturers list the 2.8 as needing 286mm, and others say 300mm.
Was there an option to have bigger discs, or were they changed at some point?

Looking at these:
http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/ ... brakediscs
Brembo and EBC list the 2.8 as 286mm, the rest have it as 300mm

If you can get hold of some brake caliper carrier brackets from an E46 you will be able to fit the 300mm discs using the exsisting calipers.

If you look up part no 34106758120 on realoem.com you can cross reference it and it will list all models that had them fitted, I got mine from a E46 328ci, have a look at my post in the gallery section

While on this subject, i've always found my 2.8's brakes a bit disappointing, without any real bite to them. My pal's ///M roadster has infinitely better braking but what hurts more, is that so does my dad's Audi A3 1.6 lol

So... anyone tried to fit M brakes to a 2.8 and is there any other advice on what would give the brakes some notable improvement in performance?

I was told you would need to change the hubs and the servo to fit ///M brakes.

thanks :) obviously your new brakes won't have "settled" in yet, but have you noticed any improvement over the old 286mm discs?

Well I have only done about 120 miles on them so youre right they are not yet bedded in, however I have noticed the yellowstuff pads do seem to have quite a nice initial bite and feel to them over the standard pads.
