Looking forward to this weekend i think its going to be nice top down weather and i'm planning a trip to Langorse Lake in the brecon Beacons on Saturday morning. That in mind reminded me of my first visit to this Lake, it was when i had my very first car. It was a ford anglia, cream top and a minty green lower half, two tone wow what a joy and i can still remember the day. Lovely and sunny, the car though struggled to climb the steep hills and on times my familly had to get out and walk up. Who remembers their very first car and what was it? Anyway this time i will have no trouble with the hills, ( i hope) and i will have the sun shine on my face.
I remember my very first car as it's still on the drive waiting to be sold since I bought my second car last weekend, a Z3 It's certainly a bit of an upgrade from a 1.2 clio! Hopefully I won't reverse into a gatepost within a week of owning this one like I did with the clio

Vauxhall Astra 1.2 - B379 GDP. Was a nice metallic gold with beige interior.
Bought it in 1990(ish) for just under 2k. Had some real laughs in that car!
I've changed my car 17 times since passing my test 20years ago. An average of one every 1.2 years, and I doubt that's not a lot compared to some people...

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..
ford escort mark 1,1300E in puple,i was a sprayer then,so it was gloss black in a short time, then the twin-choke webbers went on,cibbie spot-lights,rostyle wheels, furry dice,cb radio with 80 channels, then i put the real large wheel arches on and re-sprayed it again, all inside panels came off and were re-dyed black,i did a lot to that car, finally sold it for a bronze ford Cortina 1600E,THOSE WERE THE DAYS

It was like a tank. My best driving memories (and close shaves) with that car. How Im still alive I dont know after what I got away with in that car.
I knew it from new. My now boss won it in a chat magazine competition. It was then bought for my sister and handed down. I donated it to a friend who converted it to do road rallies. It was quite successful but sadly met its match with a verge. I tried to get it back and I would of rebuilt it but I arrived litterally 10 minutes to late. Someone had just been and took it away to scrap.

It was a Ford Anglia two tone green and cream. my next was a Triumph Vitesse Loved that car thought I was the bees knees. Soft top leaked like a bugger though. Bought it for £150 of my brother in law. Wish I had it now..zedwheels wrote:A Ford Anglia, Ahh the memories

My first was a 1967 1500 Beetle, flat screen, chrome bumpers and at the time I felt she was quite sporty
Had a number of new company cars and when out of work for a few weeks went for the only wheels I knew anything about, and got another Beetle which really brought it home to me how poor it was as I became immersed in 'character'...

1966 short wheel base Land Rover.
Bought it from a wind surfer teacher/school down at our local beach.
He had re-sprayed it in a BMW dark metallic red and had lorry seats fitted, very comfortable.
Also I remember the excellent heater.
Could not lock the rear door so had to always park it reversed up against something.
The couple of times that someone tried to nick it, I found it across the other side of the road, on both occasions, the next morning.
Don't think they could get their head round the starter button (you can do it with an old nail, don't need the key)

Mine was a Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia, didn't realise the significance of the little 'i' on the end of the name and so insured it as a plain 1.6 litre. Had bit of a shock when it was pointed out that the 'i' stood for 'injection', and so my insurance premium was bumped up quite a bit, just what I didn't need as a broke twenty-something.
Didn't really matter as about 3 months later took a corner too fast in the wet and it ended up in a pond, totalled. I learnt my lesson though!

I had an evening/weekend job in the local garage. One of the mechanics told me about a car that was going cheap - owned by a neighbour of his who was a widow and the car hadn't been used for 15 years.
So in 1969 £12-10s-0d (£12.50 in today's money) changed hands and for the next 2 years I drove LPA 493 a 1939 Standard - even used it to travel between Stockport and Guildford when I was at Uni. No modern bits - wooden floor, road and cable brakes - used to drive it in work boots to make sure that I could press the brake pedal hard enough.
Only had one accident in it - I was stopped when a police Hillman Hunter reversed into my front wing - my wing had a dent that a bit of filler took care of whilst the back of the Hillman looked like a write off - don't build them like that anymore.
It was when I sold it that I realised that it was first registered on 5th September 1939 - the day war was declared - if only I'd kept it but I'd found a replica D Type going cheap '

My first car was a 1967 Mini Van (DHB 684F) in Willow Green that I bought about two weeks after passing my driving test in January 1974. I only had it for about a month though, after discovering that it ran on two-stroke . . . . . about a pint of oil to a gallon of petrol.
It was replaced with another Mini Van, a 1970 model in Connaught Green (JEV472H), that was a much better vehicle altogether.
The reason for a van? I used to play bass guitar in a band and needed a small van to cart my bass, amp and speaker in. Just the job!!!

1600 Capri Laser, oooh the power !
This is not my car but exactly the same.
Mine was a lot slower than my mates Capri's and a lot heavier. I then discovered the lad I bought it off worked on a pig farm, under all 4 arches I must have removed 1/2 a ton of crap. It then went about 5mph quicker
Happy Days ! ! !

89 Austin Metro 1.0. Bought for £8 (all i had in my pocket) off an old lady. It was in a broken shed that had to be dismantled to get the car out. Car did not run.
Replaced battery, passed mot first time...apart from emissions whcih the tester let slide. Used for a summers worth of site work which i got 40p per mile for every mile driven.
Had all the hydraulic fluid let out of the suspension to 'lower' it!
Needless to say it drove just under its own power to the scrap yard, i had earnt enough money from it to but my first RS turbo fiesta.

My first car was a Isetta 300 Bubblecar, powered by a 300cc single cylinder BMW engine, I was 15 at the time, remember reversing the front wheels to give it a wider track then tried everything to tip it over but it never did - did some bloody stupid things back then - wish I still had it now - bit sad I know but I have a list of every car and motorbike that I have ever owned I am up to 75 now.
I bought my first car in 1994 - a 1980 3 door red/orange Fiat 127 - 903cc with 45 hp. Many laughs and small repairs - but truly a great little car... Sold it in 2002 - should have kept it - the buyer wrecked the engine 3 weeks later and then he put a 127 Sport engine in it (90 hp) then sold it - and then I lost track of it....
My idea was originally to take it for a spin on my 40th birthday.... gonna do it in the Zed I hope!!!

It was a dark metallic blue with a red stripe and as you say had a walnut dash, a common fault with Imps (one of many) was the throttle cable was always snapping as a get home you could connect the choke cable to the throttle as this was a lever on the floor of the Imp (and derivities) made driving interesting though lol, to improve handling you could shorten the front springs or stick some paving slabs or bag of sand in the boot, a mate used to have a Bond with the Imp (875cc) engine stuck in the back it was quite rapid but too much power thinking back for a 3 wheeler, I remember as a passenger sliding down the road on its side as he took a bend too fast.............
