Broken seat belt guide

Post by John1950 »

The passenger seat belt guide is broken on my new pride and joy. On Ebay, I've seen these 'sleeves which go over the open ends and stabilise the thing - but I'm next to skint. Has anyone here got one they would like to get rid off?
If so, please give me a call to discuss it.

Thanks

A replacement is about £20 from a dealer and there is a great how to fix it yourself.

nb it is a common problem (and design fault especially as the plastic used is unglueable  many have tried!)

You can use the widest electrical shrink tubing they do at B&Q but it tends to comes loose in full sun as it obviously gets heated up again

zedder3 posted this one.

My Dad came up with a classic for sorting this out.
As the retainers were broken and could turn round, he drilled into each of the parts which are normally not joined together (in the gap), with a tiny drillbit, and inserted a metal pin into the holes. This stays in place, holding the retainer together as per the above method, but using a small pin instead of the wrap. Genius!

I keep reading this about not being able to glue them, but I used Loctite SuperGlue All Plastics and its worked brilliantly!

I may well have a go at BOTH of these last suggestions - the drilling and pinning and the Loctite - before 'madam' rips the things apart (she never remembers to be gentle with my parts).

I must do this. Much better solution than the black electrical tape I have holding it together at the moment!

How long for though ?

Hopefully as they are constantly changing glue properties it may now be possible ?

Others have glued and appeared to work but it does not last long :head:

You should all have a go at replacing the seat belt guide properly. :D

If I can do it anyone can :rtm:

You will be so pleased with yourself once it is done

I used the glue route... "All Purpose Spray Contact Adhesive"

It sticks 2 bricks together once dry so it works on this as well :D
