Wind deflector queries

Post by Claire X »

Hi guys

We bought a wind deflector for our 2000 facelift model with roll bars, but we can't see how it would fit, so figured it's the wrong part. The one we have looks like this:

Can anyone tell us which model this is for, and which part we need for ours please?

Also would people recommend the mesh or perspex type deflectors?

Thanks for any help :D

Right type just fits over roll bars you may have to get the clips for the front from a dealer though
see here

mesh better for wind reduction but clear for viewing, they do stop you using the centre cubbiehole though.

Its def the right one, reguarding which is best, we have had both, they both have there plus points and bad points. We have both oem hoops with mesh deflector and chrome hoops with perspex deflector. The best for deflecting the draught is definatley the mesh, but if you dont unzip the middle when the roof is up then it impairs your vision, the perspex you can leave in situ with hood up or down and does not impair your vision at all but is draughtier than the mesh. We now have both and use the perspex for summer and the oem hoops and mesh for winter.

That is a standard BMW mesh wind deflector for cars with roll hoops. AFAIK there is only one version, so it should fit either pre- or post-facelift cars. The pockets go over the hoops, with the elastic clips to the front. The metal part of the clips go under the edge of the plastic trim where it meets the carpet. The key shaped holes on the flap at the back hook over the tonneau cover pins on the rear of the storage box - they fit better if you fit the longer pins with the collar.

What roll hoops do you have? Some of the chrome ones are fatter than the standard BMW ones and the pockets won't fit over them.

The reason it may not fit is if the roll hoops are not factory fitted.

just a thought :!:

Hi - it should fit OK as looking at the pictures of your car (love that colour and very nice and shiney :thumb: ) the roll bars look to be OEM.

Yep, definitely OEM rollhoops. Deflector should fit fine. :)

The little buckle clips attatch to the front behind the seat, you may have to move the seats forward a bit to get yr hand in. The rear has two little holes in which go over nipple type fixings on the back of the roll hoop. It's easier to fit these before the buckle clips on the front, all the bits are black so you need a bit of light. good luck
