BMW reliability?

Post by stu »

So in the past year, it's been a bit of a roller coaster personally, but suffice to say, we haven't had the Z out since last October! Time for this shameful situation to be rectified.

I went round to the garage. Clearly had to sort out a completely flat/knackered battery.

What do you think happened when I tried to start the car?

For info, it's a 2.8 99 car, we've owned from new, modified from 1 year old and it's got 65k miles on in & a VFSH.

Congrats to the majority, it started first turn, immediately with no issues at all.

Also passed it's MOT today, after being treated for a full pampering and makeover at Autologic in Hull. Little bit painful mind, as the final bill came to just over £1100

The Z's currently sat gazing into the eyes of my 996TT, looking very sexy and seductive (perhaps they'll have babies?)..... Hmm, twin turbo Z3 anyone?

I have just experienced a mouse infestation they have got into the Z and chewed the plastic around the central console and tried to nest in the engine compartment. then in the 330i Coupe they have nested in the engine compartment and made a big mess of the bonnet insulating pad and the wires on the screen washer reservoir, how on earth they get into the inside of the Z is a worry could be through the air intake ?? I am trying these sonic deterrents out has anyone tried these?? placed it just at ground level at front of cars.

I have tried a sonic deterrent in the loft, didn't seem to make much difference. Living out in the sticks, we get plagued with mice every autumn, coming into the loft, sheds and garage. As Badman suggests a (hungry) cat may help. Personally I Find the best solution is to have poison (in proper bait tubes so other animals can't get access) in the garage and it stops them before they cause any damage (so far!)

I have bait the mice love it, The cats catch some but are vastly outnumbered, I was told to sprinkle Talcum powder but of course that blows away as soon as you start the car, traps work but only one at a time. They are wining I am doomed

Been there

I have tried traps, Useless, i have two sonic sensors, they dont work
I recently bought 14kg of rat/mouse poison
I small little dishes all around the garage and workshop
You know they've been around, the poison has been eaten
You must keep topping up the dishes
I have now started to place the dishes outside to stop them
sending out troops to wrecky the place

i even found a squirrel had burrowed into the fascia board a few months back

My sturdy rifle is now to hand

The Worst thing you can do, as i did to my cost, was make the car too warm and cossy
I purchased a fitted cover, worst thing i could have ever done
When i park up now i open the bonnet, on the cars in the garage
Who wants to sleep in a draught

Having to have my loom replaced, new rocker covers replaced, the sound deadening replaced
and numerous plastic connector replaced plus several miscellaneous bits the list went on.
I had to change my insurnce, as the claim had coincided with a slight altercation i had in the van
As we all know with insurance it has a accumalative affect :head: :head: :head: :head: :head: :head: :head: :head:

So i really really hate rats and mice Big Time

Tackled mice in my garage with the old fashioned killer traps. For bait they seem to prefer fruitcake to cheese

Think yourselves lucky that you don't have glis glis in your garage! Unless, of course, you live within twenty miles of Tring then you probably have got them! :head:

I have one rodent deterrent that has worked for the last 2-3 years (I thought it was given on this thread?) and that is to leave the bonnet up over night,

I'm new to forum - just bought a '97 Z3-2.8 garage queen with 97K miles....Love it. Will store it in winter in upstate NY and wanted to share advice learned from storing my Porsche 924.

RE: mice: place poison in open sandwich bag in boot, cabin, and engine compartment. place mothballs in open baggie in the same places. Insert wad of steel wool in tail-pipe and air intake. Check coolant, add "Stabil" to gas per directions, disconnect battery ground, and check during winter for evidence of mice. Remove baggies and steel wool in the spring and seal for next year. Connect battery and it should be good to go - Porsche started 100% over 15 years.

PS. True story: Neighbor moved bird feeder near garage because of bears and only drove Prius occasionally. Mice had bed and breakfast. Prius was totaled when mice ate eco-friendly coated wiring harness. Neighbor bought new Prius and relocated bird feeder. As Dr. Malcolm said in Jurassic Park - Life (mice) will find a way.
