Can anyone help, I have a colleague that has just aquired a 2L z4 and he has to remove the battery he wants to know if the radio will need a code

Only if its off for an extended period.
I have swapped my battery over before now and not had to enter the code.
Having said that he should have a code in his documentation pack, or needs to get it from BMW dealer.

You don't need one. I had my battery off for 2 weeks and the radio worked fine after conection.

Can confirm for sure that NEVER any coding is required in any Z4 for the radio as long as you connect it to a Z4.

I have had new radios delivered from the US from (obviously) a different Z4 and never any coding is required.
