painted side vents

Postby PCSAM » Tue 15 May, 2012 10:36

hi I have a spare set of side vents .the first time I got them painted in a matt chrome (didn't work that well )
now after investing in nice set of alloys , I decided to give them another colour change.
with a cheap can of spray paint I painted them yesterday......(my first ever attempt the spray paint anything car related )

what do you lot think ......(im unsure at the moment)

not too bad......i have a titanium silver with blue hood and like you fancied a change, but couldn't justify the cost of chrome ones. in the end i bought off ebay some standard ones painted in dark grey metallic off a 2000 zed and in my opinion they suit the car, although i appreciate they are not to everyones taste! plus they only cost £25!!!!

I quite like them :thumb:

Works well with the black and silver theme in the wheels and also the black headlights :)

I wouldn't normally go for this kind of thing being a boring ol' fart, but think you get away with it because of the alloys and the (newly?) black roof. :thumb:

Well I might be an old fart too, but I reckon it looks good with your wheels to match. I like the chrome side grills until I saw the price...that's quite a few polybushes, link arms, sensors that has done much more for improving my car over buying chrome grills. I might be tempted to spray mine silver (Topaz Blue car) the closest shade I can get to my wheels in a kind of copycat but alternative version of yours. :)

I think they look great :cheers .....then I would say that, as they are the same as mine

I found one small problem. After exposure to the elements + numerous washes, the paint started to peel around the badges..............PS I did not paint them

I changed mine for a pair of BMW metalic factory painted side vents which I picked up for £20.00. They really do sparkle if you catch them in the right light.

Do you think the the badges had been removed for painting, or just masked off? I could imagine that if they were just masked, the paint would be more likely to peel than if it was a continuous coat under the badge.

Cheapens the car IMO, as do the chrome ones. The car's lines and body are broken up and it just does not look right to me.

I'm also not keen on the black centred wheels either, reminds me of early 80s Porche 924s - sorry! A shadow chrome style finish would be ok or normal bright silver for me.

Yes you are right; the badges were masked & not removed prior to painting :(

IMO they would look much better if you painted the expanded mesh in the vents silver.
