New tyres

Postby Kentzroadster » Wed 13 Jun, 2012 09:26

I have a 1.9 Z3 and in July am doIng a euro tour to south France and up through Italy and Switzerland. I brought some new alloys a few months back and they have cheap foreign tyres on them and was considering upgrading before I set off on long trip.

Wheels are 245/40/18 on rear and 245/40/18 on front. I am on a limited budget so have been looking at Kumho KU39's or KU37's but falkens seem t be a similar price. I just wondered has anyone used these either of these and what are they like?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Falken FK452 come highly recommended on this forum.

I have just fitted a set of Matador MP46 Hectora 2 s after much diliberation and research on the net. I decided on them for a number of reasons. Firstly (on my size at least) they are W rated which is higher than the standard V, accademic I know but it's a plus rather than a minus, also they are ZR rated and they are an Ultra High Performance tyre. Secondly they have a very high rating if you go onto the Tyre Rating webite (through Google).
By all accounts Matador is a susidiary of Continental. I have looked on Camskill's website and they are cheaper than Falken.
It's early days yet but initial reaction is possitive, they seem to stopped the tramlining I was experiencing and are not anywhere near as affected by white lines and imperfections in the road. Hope this helps.

I've had the KU39's and Falkens, i found the 39's excellent, as good as the falkens but with less road noise
Now with the Boxster !

I put my 3ltr Z3 in to main dealer to go through entire car and rectify anything they found, I took their advice and they fitted Bridgestone Potenza tyres. (back and front) they were about £135 each. Car handles like it should now. But still recovering after the bill!
