Well my stuff has been a bit boring tbh.
Radiator bracket and rubber bungs
Side lamp fitment and two bulbs
Bought these as some gash bastard who had the Z before me couldnt be bothered to buy the parts to replace them it cost me the sum total of £15 quid for the parts why oh why scrimp on important parts??, oh also found out that the interior boot light works fine just the previous owner couldnt be bothered to connect it up!!!!!!
Albert is happy with me cos i care lol

so.. you can switch on the light to power up the charger, ...... in effect you generate the 12volts, by using 240v.TitanTim wrote:Haha this one works under flourescent lighting (its not a joke )Southernboy wrote:Hey Tim...do you remember what the sun looks like...??? your solar charger might have to be charged too.....

Some small purchases this week to get my project underway, black grilles, red rear cluster, smoked side repeaters and some tinting film (legal) for the front lights, once I actually get chance to do something about it I'll start my project thread proper!

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
New floor mats in "super-hyper - aerotouch" black velour 980gm with upholstery matching red trim, complete with OEM black floor fasteners and rubber heel pad on drivers side. £.25.00.
I used a set of OEM mats as a template, but extended the driver's mat back towards the seat by 100mm, and the passengers side by 80mm up under the dash (just for "bigfoot"... )
I thought the driver side mat was a little "short" since my seat is well back, the OEM mat looked as if it had been shrunk in the wash.

I'm sure all of you will be overjoyed to learn I have remembered the 'safe place' I hid the spare set of keys for Zelda.Bonzo wrote:I bought Zelda a spare key for her Alpina Wheel centre caps, (original a bit bent after difficulty locking a stubborn cap.) However, found on e-bay a little device that cures that problem, a simple lever that puts pressure on the cap around the lock area and makes locking/unlocking hassle free. I do have a second key for this,.......somewhere! It's In a safe place with the second lot of car keys! So safe even I can't remember where they are.
Cheers, Bonzo.
I have checked that they work ok, which they do, and so I have put them in a 'new' safe place so that I don't lose them again!
Cheers, Bonzo.

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
After investigating the "can aluminium be chrome plated" question, and discovering that it can with a layer of copper and a layer of nickel first, I just dropped off my bespoke stubby at the electroplaters. They cautioned me that it was "expensive". I had a moment of doubt as I asked just how much it would be....£3.20.... ..... I'll collect it at the end of the week. No more polishing aluminium to a mirror shine !!

....and, after being caught in traffic for 20+ minutes yesterday, and having my temp guage push up to just below the "RED BLOCK" I discovered my viscous fan clutch had packed in..so new fan clutch, new waterpump with metal impellers, and new aluminium thermostat housing with thermostat... fitting on friday morning. Total cost £.75 for parts, labour to be discussed with the mechanic over a few pints...

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Drive belts are best from a Meyle stockist. They are the people that supply BMW. Their cost is around 30% of tBMW price, you just don't get the BMW packaging. In fact, they also do shocks, shock mounts, and a whole heap of stuff for BMW. I have just today bought a new water pump from them for again, around 30 -35% of the BMW price, and it has metal impellers which is an upgrade on the original plastic impellers. I have bought front and rear bushes, diff mount etc from them...it's a huge saving for the same quality parts. You might do a search in the Z3 Knowledge base under "Meyle", possibly someone has mentioned a stockist in the UK.
Chin up, it's worth the effort...just wait till spring / summer comes around...you'll be smiling with the roof down and a good solid drive.

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Looking forward to spending £4.00 on it this weekend - for a jetwash!!
Hasn't been washed in three weeks and has done just under 2,000 miles in that time.
I must have cleaned the lights and windows half a dozen times.
This is no pampered, fair weather Z.
The interior is still immaculately clean though.
Regards
Peter

I assume you'll get the key cut and transfer the transponder chip out of the existing key? But you can't use it to set the alarm, can you?g8jka wrote:An armrest from southernboy to go with last weeks cupholder purchase and a new style key with flip blade that will be cut to match my normal key

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Those "flip" blade keys are identical to the Volvo key, except the Volvo key has multiple buttons for lock & unlock. How does this key function for the central locking? My OEM key has 3 buttons.
Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Key will be cut to match my existing blade but there will be no internals inside the fob itself apart from the receiver that does the immobiliser.
I no longer need a key with any of the other parts inside, as the new alarm that's fitted unlocks / locks the car via its own pager. This will be used solely as a key for the ignition and if I ever needed to unlock / lock the car via the door handle locks.
The transponder chip that links up to the ring antenna around the ignition for the immobiliser is now inside the new key but that is the only part I have had to fit otherwise I cannot start the car as the immobiliser will not let it.

.......and a set of new drive belts while the rest of the cooling system is being upgraded!!
Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Well this week has been less maintenance more style orientated gifts.
On this weeks shopping list was...
New bulbs all round with a light blue tint
blue led interior bulb light.
smoked side lights with amber bulbs.
Smaller black bee sting aerial (it'll do for now)
Fabric clips (since I done the shock mounts last week wasted a couple)
ohh and rubber hose boot for the air intake as the last had a slight hole in it. Wish I could just go k&n tbh.
So the project will be beginning shortly.

A new heater bulb after the last one broke when changing the console recently, only £7.67 what a bargain
And a new VDO air temperature sensor which will hopefully work (as the standard one doesn't) with the temperature gauge fitted in the ///M console that I have just installed

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
I bought mine a lovely Inspection 2 service. She got through with an all clear except a bit of play in the OS track rod end so I'm getting that sorted next week.
I've done around 2k since I bought her 6 months ago and before that she'd been in storage for a couple of years so it's something I've been meaning to do for a while. I don't know if it's purely psychological but everything seems so much sharper after a service!
I'm looking to get some new speakers and an amp soon, my Pavarotti collection demands more bass than the tinny stock system can deliver

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
As part of the installation kit for the Alpine DAB radio I've bought I bought a Kinetic DAB stubby ariel to go with it. I queried with the supplier what I wanted and they gave feed back on the parts I'd requested as being compatable and giving good performance. I'll give feed back on results after installation.Bonzo wrote:A stubby BMW sport aerial. Looks neat. Radio reception ok in garage, haven't been out to try it in the big wide world yet.

Supplier was dabonwheels. They gave best price I could find for the Alpine radio I was after. Also give list of installers from which I picked one local to me.
