Z1 Tour Anyone?

Post by Jet »

Would anyone like to tour this year? The dire weather is eating away at the time we would need to organise it, so we need to get something in the diary.

1) Suggestions so far are Saturday 17th August, followed by Gaydon on Sunday.
2) July Zedfest one day, tour the next. This may impact hotel demand.
3) Or a separate date entirely.

Does not have to be a major event, if one of the above dates then Cotswolds would be the preferred destination.

Dorset is lovely, not much good for cruising though, the wildlife have no respect for road users. :head:

I doubt I can make the French May event, as that particular weekend is always difficult for me, that aside would still like to see you lot at some point, grey hairs, no hairs and warts. How about July/August, maybe revisit Cotswolds and a nice Hotel?

Jet
Well I dont have any warts... but I do have hair (going grey mind) so I guess that qualifies me.

July/August should be o.k for me.

Sounds like a good idea Jamal.
I am intending to do Fred's French weekend in May and also have another weekend earlier than that where I am away. I'm also in Le Mans for my birthday this year and we go on the family jolly in August.
I'm trying to keep thinks cheap ish this year on account of all of the above, less than easy trading conditions and also a buy to let property that has turned into a money pit, but lets have a think and come up with something.

Sam Lever.

Isn't the big meeting at Silverstone happening again this year in July?
I would definitely be up for a meet sometime either side of Silverstone.

Couple of days driving with a hotel stay in the middle would be great. Getting dates in the diary early will be best for me and the details can follow on.

Happy New Year!

Jet - still an excellent idea, despite the SNOW that fell yesterday and the deadly ice this morning.

My preference would be Option 3 "Separate Date Entirely". That is only because I am in Spain for the Saturday before Gaydon Sunday and will be fully occupied during the Silverstone Classic trying to juggle between the CSL and the 911 50th birthday Track Parade.

Obviously, if you get a majority view for options 1 / 2 then please don't mess people around just on my behalf - there's always next year.

Keep up the good work mate and speak soon.

Hi Jet

I have already booked tickets for Silverstone for the Saturday so a tour on the Sunday would fit. Likewise for Gaydon weekend kept open in my diary but tickets yet to be purchased (when are these available?) having said that happy to support a separate weekend if it doesn't clash with anything else in my diary.

Hi Everybody,

Bruno,

Nice Idea for 2014, as there is a french tour in progress. Will you organise this for 2014?

Genie,

apologies, not ignoring you, Gaydon tickets are not available yet.

Anyone been here? http://themanorweston.com/rooms/. They are going to send over a quote for multiple rooms, looks nice.

Andy Seriously? This is not a joking matter, the Ice Man's Lair? Oh alright then, we can probably squeeze it in, I'll give Kimi some tips. :D

The Force India tour in 2009 was a big success, judging by the response afterwards, thanks to you.

Option 3 for The wife and I Gaydon and silverstone are in the diary. With Discounted tickets for Zed Fest Silverstone purchased.
Andy's idea of a Lotus tour sounds very interesting.

Option 3 for me please. Have already bought tickets for both days of Silverstone Classic and committed to Gaydon weekend. So would like another opportunity to get the Z1 out!

Can we start looking at dates if possible as my year is filling up fast.

Many thanks,

Apologies RT - Lotus F1 is in the Cotswolds (what was Toleman/Benetton/Renault). Roads here are good providing you can dodge the potholes

Jamal - I'm sure we could sort something assuming the timing works. 17/18 August is definitely out as that falls in the factory shutdown window (and I shall probably be sat on a beach somewhere with an extremely alcoholic cocktail in hand).

I doubt I'd be able to get as many people in here as we did at the Force but I'm happy to make some enquiries.

Ahh. I was thinking I could sneak it in to an East Anglian w/end away. Still, Cotswolds is do-able.

August is generally a bad time to arrange anything.

A tour of the Lotus F1 factory sounds good.
Maybe we should look at dates that Lotus can accommodate us and organize the weekend around that.

A weekend of Z1 driving including a visit to the Lotus factory would be ideal.

Weekend of 3-4th August ? combine with drive across the Cotswolds to the VSCC hillclimb event at Prescott ?

Chris.

The Hungarian GP is on the 28th July, and if the Lotus team win it will take them most of the following week to sober up and get back to Enstone. Next GP is Spa on 25th August and Andy will be away weekend of 17/18. I am sure Andy will be able to confirm the race team shut down period.

Other events this summer which I and others may be committed to include ...

3 - 4 May, Donnington Historic Festival
22-23 June, Le Mans
6-7 July, Griffith Growl, Ettingdon Chase.
11 -14 July, Goodwod Festival of Speed
19-20 July, CLA Game fair
26 - 28 July, SIlverstone Classic
3-4 August, Prescott VSCC HIll climb
17 August, International Moth Rally - Woburn
18 August, BMW Gaydon
25 August, Belgian GP Spa.
13-15 September, Goodwood Revival

One day at Prescott is fine unless to are competing. The others are big events which take up most of the weekend.

For those based in London / Home counties another event worth considering is "Classics on the Common" on the evening of Weds 31st August in Harpenden. BMW Z1's are eligible, the event is limited to 1,000 vehicles and is usually oversubscribed. There are worst ways to spend a summers evening !

Majority rule but can we throw August 31st - September 1st into the hat as an Option 3 please?

Afternoon all.

3/4 August is no good - shutdown starts on Monday 5th so it is likely that the gates will be shut over the weekend to allow for the beginning of maintenance work.

31 August/1 Sept could be a goer.

Jet - give me the nod and I can make some enquiries

Please do Andy, hopefully we can all work around this date.

Bad News: Looks like we have missed out on The Manor Weston.

Good News: The Ettington is available with discounted rate, Double £159, Singles £139, down to £119 and £109 respectively.

Sounds like Ettingdon Chase - the home of the annual TVR Griff Growl.

I am sure Jamal will be along shortly to confirm ... it has a large car park which isnt visible from the main road

Several sites offereing different deals, the one above is an agent, not the hotel site which is odd, so bear with me, looking at 3 sites who offer the best Dinner/Room/Breakfast deal.

The hotel is an old building with a modern extension - all very clean and modern. A very large car park so you will be able to coral the Z1 together or park it outside your bedroom window ... if you ask for the right rooms.

Decision time folks, who is in? We need to get this together asap and give ourselves some leverage. Once agreed, simply call the hotel and reserve yourself a room pronto. This allows for changes, as a group booking means a contract and restrictive T&Cs.
