Z3m Roadster

Post by S10OTY »

Hello,

I am a newbie to forums and also a newbie to my Z3m.

My car is 1998 Z3m Roadster 19k only had inspection 1.

I took her for a long run Swansea too Pembroke then Pembroke too Devon. She (Sooty) started the run lovely loads of power lovely engine note, but on the leg of the journey from Pembroke to Devon (after the over night stop at Pembroke) she became a bit lumpy a juddery at low revs, and there was a loss of power and a bit of slow throttle response.
she has just had her MOT and a quick once over by the mechanic to check she was sound and he didn't find any problems, the car has been garaged all her life and hasn't left the garage for the last 5/6 years. Before i take her to BMW and give them my life savings to find the problem just wondered if anybody could let me know of anything i need to check or have checked.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Welcome to the Forum

Find yourself a good BMW Independent and have a diagnostic check. The car has been laid up for years, did you have an oil change etc and new fuel ?

This is one of downsides of low mileages in that the car can possibly go with never being serviced as the owner goes by the dash lights rather than rule of thumb timescale. Best to have the oil changed along with brake fluid and coolant every 2 years regardless, problem is with Ms no-one is going to spent that sort of cash when doing a low mileage and just go by the dash lights.

Yes all fresh fuel before the run, there was only a tiny tiny bit in the tank so brimmed her with shell optimax. No oil change though yet, ill get it booked in for a inspection 2 and to run the diagnostics, hopefully find the problem and get it resolved and then be back on top form.

Thanks

Nice, simple, non-serious fix. As you car has very low mileage (and only had an Inspection 1) they were probably the originals :D

changing the plugs is good fun DIY because you get to use that funny bendy socket attachment thats in your tool box and never get the chance to use .I cant wait to get to the cylinder next to the engine, get my bendy tool out and slide it down the hole "heaven" ,im getting exited thinking about it i think ill order another set of plugs!

glad you found the problem. I was going to suggest plugs until you said it was fixed. I had the same issue recently, however, this is the second set of plugs for me.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..
