Ouch! that's a major cost item!
I meant new / used as in new to you but a used item from someone else.

Decent used bonnets on ebay are £300-400 and then you have to arrange delivery. For that you get a 10+ year old bonnet which needs painting and it may or may not be totally straight. I paid £670 total delivered, from bmmini.co.uk which seems a no-brainer to me in comparison. My old bonnet is 99% straight with good paint so that should sell on the bay for ~£300.

Was that a painted cost as well?

2 cans of Castrol Edge and a Manns oil filter complete with 'o' rings. Figured I ought to get into the habit of an annual change.

Changed the ATF oil in my power steering system. When I shine a light in the reservoir now it’s a nice transparent cherry red (sad that such things give me pleasure :D ) it’s probably psychological but the steering also seems a bit smoother.

Did they use a cat food tin on the back rather than the usual baked bean can?

by 'very very cheap' i meant compared to the alternatives. it was £115 - this one off ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150951659606? ... 1423.l2649

i was worried because others have said that the cheap ones dont fit properly and rattle when warm, but this seems fine on my test drive. a bit of sound but not loud and no rattle. quite surprised.

I figured it obviously wont last as long as a bmw one, but it is about 1/6 the price, so as the oem one lasted 12 years, if this lasts more than 2 i'm up!

It has replaced the Cobra SS exhaust, which i'll be selling soon. The sportyness was good and fun, but not to my taste on longer journeys.

i think the whole thing may be made of welded baked bean cans actually :D

I agree with you, that's cheap! But there is no reason why it shouldn't last as long as the other ones!

How much are you selling the cobra one? You payed quite a lot for it...

it was £325. I'm hoping to get around £220 for mine as it is only few weeks old and has done about 500 miles. I'll give it a quick clean and put it on here for a few days this weekend, then on ebay if no-one bites.

This does mean that i will have spent £220 in total to get a £115 exhaust, but hey-ho

Rich,i respectfully suggest if you put your Cobra on eBay,you set a reserve.I bought one from a guy in Scotland who'd put a Cobra twin-pipe on his zed,ran it for 200 miles and didn't like the sound, took it off and put it up for sale.I paid £130 incl delivery. It looks absolutely mint.I was the only one interested so it was me or he was stuck with it.I wish you well with the sale and you get a good price.

It was hard to estimate a price as there's none on there. I would have paid up to about that if there was one for sale when I bought mine, but like you say, if there's little interest then it won't go for much.

I guess we'll find out when I get round to putting it up!

Cheers.

Well, i bought a set of rear coil springs but they are the wrong ones so not sure if that counts!! Also a thermostat but not fitted it yet as i will also do the water pump but i havent got it yet. All the items required to fit cruise control plus a coil spring pad for one side of the car as it doesnt sit level, hoping that may help. Also bought it a week off the work run as we booked a holiday, does that count??

I'm currently sitting in my "office" - which also happens to be at home - and in the background, I can hear the chopping and other sounds of the workmen lifting my driveway brick paving and relaying them with less angular differentiation...just so I can get in and out of my garage without scraping the undersides of my new splitters....

Currently sitting in mine as well having a tea break. :D

This week bought:

1.New offside front kidney grill (OE but second-hand) as the original one has always had a crack in it. :)

2.A new shiny metal Richbrook tax disc holder with a BMW symbol etched into the back. 8-)

3.I want to get 3 shiny metal rims to stick around my pre-facelift heater controls. I bought some last year which were the ones supposed to stay in position just by compression – but I couldn’t get them to fit and so sent them back. Any recommendations?

Bought more for my zed this week than I have for quite some time! New brake discs all round and new handbrake shoes - all fitted by my local dealer (who is turning into more of an indie when he reverts to his Autotechnic name soon) - he says the handbrake will gradually need pulling on further and further over the next month or two and when it gets "silly" bring it back in and he'll readjust and balance it up FOC. The discs I might have attempted myself, but I've not got the time at the moment, and need the car on the road, especially since the other is currently engineless!

Also bought replacement bulbs for the instrument cluster and headlight knob. I've fitted both the odometer backlight and headlight knob bulbs now. Odometer backlight wasn't too bad, apart from mucking up the service indicator, which I could at least reset with my laptop. Headlight knob bulb was a bit more annoying, as having got the vent out, the switch stubbornly refused to part company with the surround - when it finally did come apart, changing the bulb was the easy bit - putting it back together involved more exasperated swearing as the switch refused to go back in and in the end I had to undo the four screws for the lower trim panel and poke my hand up to twiddle it to face the right way whilst holding the vent with the other! All done now and somehow that soft little glow from the light makes the cabin feel more homely in the dark. :D

An extra original BMW rear screen blanket a "cubby thingy" for the door pocket - bought it from "Mad Max" - just waiting for the stuff to arrive :D

Max wrote me today and told me that postage was cheaper than expected - so he returned £8 - now that's what I call a fair seller - Thumbs up for that Max :thumb:

Oh dear - I'm going to have a busy season with some unfinished projects: Philips D2S bixenon headlamps with autolevel (headlight washers are already installed, footwell lights from siwilson and steering whell control for cruise control and radio functions...
