3G EWS - LED Pushbutton

Post by Jonco »

Help! LED push button cover and spring have gone AWOL from my centre console, probably now in waste bin via vacuum cleaner. Cannot find part number on realOEM - probably there somewhere but I cannot find it. Can anybody spot it or better still advise where to get one?

At risk of sounding an idiot, I am going to ask anyway. If its a push button, what happens when you push the button?

And, is mine a push button on a June 98 ///M?

It disables the ultrasonic sensors so you can set the alarm with the roof down. My 1.9 is a June 98 build and does have it, so I imagine yours does too.

Absolutely right - mine is a 1.9 Dec `97 build. Must confess when I first got the car, it came out and I went to glue it back in but then thought `hold on what's a spring doing under an LED cover'

Interesting. I have on below the cubby box but it doesn't appear to do anything, seems solid when I push it. Is it supposed to flash when it disarms the sensors or what?

There are two types of alarm - the LED button above only applies to the earlier alarm with the separate housebrick keyfob. The later alarm has the buttons on the key and the LED is just an LED - pressing the lock button on the key twice achieves the same effect as pushing the LED button. The LED should flash when the alarm is armed i.e. when you lock with the remote button.

Cheers R.

As Robert says, there are two types. However, the push-button ones are easily broken and get stuck in. I only realised mine was a button from reading the handbook. I had to take it apart to get it working (beware of small spring pinging off!!)

Just tried to order LED pushbutton (part 82929401797) from CooperBMW but they say they can no longer source it. :head:
