I've been hunting for a set if these for a wee while now and not finding any.
Are these as rare as hens teeth and super expensive when a pair do appear?

Yes, they are as rare as hen's teeth, hence the price!!
There's no alternative that bolts straight up. I did see a post on another forum recently where someone fitted Mini mirrors, which are similar size and shape to the ///M mirrors, but they had to do a lot of work to reprofile the base to fit the lines of the door.

The alternatives posted look to small and odd! IMHO
Breakers know that they are rare too and they go quick, and still command a high price, I was quoted for standard mirror housing £125 plus! For one! And the due to the corrosive nature of the insides buy used it may well be seazed or locked.
Good luck with your hunting, I'm sure you will find used sooner or later, just make sure you get all the smaller parts too!
