Topless driving conditions forecast

Post by Del »

Good weather forecast here in the SW UK. Supposed to be clear blue skies and temperatures approaching 30 C over the next week. I must ask Southernboy about what sun-block to use on the dashboard to stop it cracking :D (once the moss has dried). Plenty of opportunity to get out and about in my little silver machine. 8-)

Best sunblock for the dash is a good coating of wax polish...just don't use it on your face too... :roflmao:

10 days of good quality summer, then the day I pick up my zed it rains.

Enjoy the top down stuff folks :D

All the lads from work are away at various family gatherings tonight so regular Friday pub session is off.

Think I might just take the Z out and drive until I find a nice country pub and have a half in the sun 8-)

Had a lovely drive from Macclesfield to Chatsworth today with top down all the way. Over the Cat and Fiddle and then through the winding lanes to Chatsworth and then back via Buxton.

On days like today you can't beat top down motoring.

No we know how to deal with UV in the UK - somebody told me about some protection called "sunglasses" that people who live in sunny countries wear - I must get some :D

Been in cars with roofs all day. At least my dad's car had aircon, but the rally car I was driving at Oulton Park this afternoon certainly didn't - almost turned into a wet t-shirt competition!

Will luck the zed will be out and about tomorrow. :)

Yep - we should have a "limiter" on the UK temperature so that it stops as a civilised 25 C - must be my Viking blood with in-built antifreeze. :viking:

I originally thought that air con on a convertible was silly, but on days like this it's nice having the vents aimed at my upper half and face. However, it's easy to be fooled into thinking you're not going to get burnt.

How can people drive a z3 with the top up in weather like this. They were made for this.

I use my Zed each day for work.

Have had the hood down every evening last week on the return journey (on Friday, all the way from Wiltshire) but I never have it down on the way to work - otherwise I'll arrive at work with a hairstyle like Ken Dodd

Got stuck in a bit of heavy traffic yesterday and temperatures down here in SW England are approaching 30 C. The little Z3's temperature gauge was nonetheless rock steady at 12 o clock and no funny noises from the engine bay. Not bad for a 15-year old car on which I haven't changed the water pump or fan clutch. :)

Today's forecasted high is 36ºC same as yesterday. Too hot really to do anything outside, especially with all the humidity. On days like this the Z is relegated to evening cruises when the sun is setting and temps cool down to a manageable 28º-30º. So for the next 4 days the commute will be the MINI Cooper's job, AC included!

Temperatures up to 35 c forecast in some UK places next week. Getting a bit hot for topless driving during the day - I'm burning my bum and back on my black seats  Most roadsters I saw today when out and about, had their roof up :(

Ten past eleven at night and it's still 26C in my house with all the doors and windows open - hardly a breath of air moving - wish I'd not been on the vino collapso now as it would be lovely for a drive right now. :drive

:sunny :sunny :sunny :sunny ........and just a few weeks ago, there were nothing but moans about the "extended winter".....The best is to turn the aircon on and direct the air onto your feet with the roof down...and wear a golfers cap, shorts, sunglasses and try to park in the shade at every opportunity...I even try to take cover on the "shady" side of large trucks in traffic.... :roflmao:

Hi Gill...it's an easy retrofit parts often available on eBay - UK...needs some mechanical / electrical ability...the wiring should all be there in the boot ready to connect though...have a look into it...well worth the hassle of the manual roof issues.

I did my wife's Z3, manual roof to electric....
you need roof motor/pump/purple relays attached.
hydraulic hoses
Hydraulic ram
roof button
Microswitch from maplins
All the wiring is there, but you need to mount the motor. The mounting brackets are welded to the cars with pre fitted electric roof. I had to manufacture a bracket (I have a spare) and mounted my pump where the CD changer goes so its under the carpeted bit. otherwise you need a new lhs carpet trim.

Cost me £125 for eBay bits.....

some here
possibly everything doesnt show the relays, though has the hoses and ram.

motor/pump/relays

ram/hoses
bit more than I paid though as I got a roof button as well.
