Source for a new wing?

Post by Racing Tortoise »

It seems BMW is clean out of new OE front wings - I missed the last one by mere days. Anyone got any tips on how to source one? I need an off-side (ie passenger side) one as it seems the impact with the taxi has cracked/snapped all the mounting points (the other front wing is fine).

If you have all the bits from your wing, it can be temporarily ally strengthened/repaired until BMW find a new one.

Also try Senna or Renee Visser, he has/had alot of panel parts 0031 518 43 29 55

Thanks. This is an insurance claim, so I'd rather source it now and get it paid for by the insurance...

I emailed Renee Visser last night as I need the same front wing. I'll let you know if he has any in stock.

Sorry gents, you may be waiting for some time, Renee is also out of them, the only other source immediately available is the expensive carbon route.

Is the taxi aggressor's insurer likely to pay for the more expensive, carbon wing? Since the OE alternative isn't available within a reasonable time, there would appear to be no alternative way for them to settle the claim promptly.

After market front wings are available. I got two from my local autosave for £60 each.

I don't think they'd fork out for the carbonfibre one.

Has any one got any experience of these strengthening pieces?

Looks like a clever idea, sandwiching the susceptible area in ali or stainless.

Thanks! However, it needs collecting apparently and there's no way to tell the condition...

I am reliably informed that BMW have a new batch of 140 wings and should be dealing with accrued 78 back orders later this week.

This was timely and helpful. The bodyshop who are repairing the Z1 under the insurance claim rang BMW this morning who confirmed to them that a new batch of wings were coming in. Accordingly they were able to order one, but BMW were not yet able to give an ETA for delivery.

The bodyshop has repaired and repainted the front bumper for me and I should get the car back today or tomorrow with the old wing still in situ. Then we'll just wait for the new wing to turn up from BMW and, when it does, I'll drop the car back down to them for the new wing to be fitted.

Finally got the car back today, albeit still with a slightly loose front wing as the new one is still AWOL in the BMW back order system. Front bumper looks spotless and it's great to have it back.

Took advantage of it going into the bodyshop to finally have the horrible old Belgian dealer badge that looked like a fake "M" badge removed from the rear bootlid - it had been there so long, it had effectively welded to the paintwork... Looks heaps better!

Have they given any indication of when that might be?

I was quoted £430+VAT from my local BMW dealer. That doesn't include painting or fitting.

Despite the damage, used parts in high demand.
