Anyone ever bought tyres on ebay?
Anyone ever bought tyres on ebay?
Hey guys,
I had a rather unexpected visit to kwik fit yesterday afternoon, as a rather lovely nail had tagged along for a trip in my rear nearside tyre.
so after £24.50 for a puncture repair. I was told all my tyres were running on roughly 2mm.
So my new top of the list priority is a set of new rubber.
This is my first time needing tyres for my zed and have spotted some good deals on ebay for a set of 4.
Also seen a few threads before on tyre choice but the set of yokohama cdrive tyres are standing out to me. Anybody got any experience with these?

Yes I've had the yoko cdrives on our polo.. Excellent tyres, really grippy as there a soft compound but they do wear quickly..
Think we got about 20-25k out of a set

Re: Anyone ever bought tyres on ebay?
Make sure before you buy tyres from eBay or online that you can get the tyres fitted locally, most tyre fitters do not want to fit new tyres bought elsewhere.
If you use online stores such as etyres or blackcircles they can arrange fitting as part of the deal.

Yeah i have a local mechanic who im sure will put them on for me. ill double check though before i do it.
Just seems to be a rather huge saving considering kwik fit thought i would be happy to shell out £696.90 for they're quote on premium tyres.

Re: Anyone ever bought tyres on ebay?
I have bought from camskill before and got them fitted locally and my brother has tyres off ebay and gets them fitted locally. I was charged about £10 per wheel for fitting and balancing but it worked out slightly cheaper.
I have the Maxxis MAZ1's on mine, great tyre and a decent price. Need a new rear one myself as I hit a pothole on Saturday which put a big hole in the tyre and somehow scratched all around the rear wing and scuffed the rear bumper which will now need respraying as well

More like the dangers of actually taking it out on to the road and driving it
It could have happened to any car, lowered or not. I think its more the fact that tyres are made from rubber and can quite easily puncture.
Looking at it now it looks more like I've hit something lying in the pothole that's gone through the tyre, stayed in it and then scored the paint on the arch. Most probably a standard bmw spring that are prone to breaking.

Hope you get it sorted sir.
Don't drive it, that's the answer!

Terrible news there g8jka, hope it gets sorted soon.
Z3cade the current sizes are 225 45 17 v
over the course of last night though i have been offered by a local company some part worn tyres.
He can provide me a set of either continental or Michelin tyres with 5-6 mm of tread fully fitted for £140
Does this seem to good to be true?

Re: Anyone ever bought tyres on ebay?
my local part worn place does them for £40 each fitted, loads of tread, BUT they are almost always winter tyres from europe (i believe they are required to keep a set). loads of tread, good makes, and fully legal, but not ideal for exuberant summer driving.martyb wrote:Terrible news there g8jka, hope it gets sorted soon.

So check what they are first.

You would be surprised, my local fitter put it to me a different way.Brian H wrote:Make sure before you buy tyres from eBay or online that you can get the tyres fitted locally, most tyre fitters do not want to fit new tyres bought elsewhere.
I turn up with four tyres, he fits them and disposes of the old one for £40.
If there is a fault with one of my new tyres, then it is not his problem. In fact he will charge me to remove the faulty one and refit the replacement.
I drive away and that transaction has almost zero future risk for him.
He will only ever be out of pocket if he makes a mistake fitting it.
