2.8T99 your best engine oil, and why?

Post by Fozzfox72 »

Hi Z3 drivers,
I have been wondering which is the best engine oil for my beloved zed3?

I have been into my local Halfords (bless) and have been totally bamboozled by the differences in price and promises of the oils manufacturer. So as always I'm looking for you the drivers which is best, price and performance. Does it really make much difference? I think so but what do I know?

Or shall I ask the spotty guy in Halfords?

Thanks in advance

I always use 5/30, not too fussy which brand.

Likely to be fully synthetic 5W-40 or 5W-30. Much marketing propaganda and spin on oils from powerful oil companies and car manufacturers. No topic is likely to provoke a greater range of strong views.

My own humble view is that changing frequently is more important than choosing a particular brand or whether it has BMW “approval”. Currently using EuroCarParts own brand Triple QX 5W-40 (£12.49 5 litres). It has BMW “approval” and the most recent SN rating for keeping the internals clean. The money I save over a big brand can buy a nice bottle (or 2) of single malt. :D

Opted for the Castrol Edge 5/30 £19.99 from Halfords.

Don't know why as they (Halfords) have their own in a larger size which is cheaper? But felt compelled to stick with a brand, although it is smaller and more expensive. :head:

Not bad for a top up I guess??
