Z visit to the Newark Air Museum

Post by Koolflyer »

Myself and Rocky Dave are planning to take our two Z3's out for a ride over to the Newark Air Museum, Winthorpe, Newark, Notts. We are going on Saturday 31st May for about 1000, when the museum opens it's gates.
We are both relative 'newbies' to the Z scene, so thought it would be a good chance to meet other Z owners and talk about Z's, as well as talking aeroplanes :D .
Here is the link to the museum, which I will say is very good, with good car parking and a small cafe.

http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/index.html

Entry fee per adult is £7.50 and post code is NG24 2NY. There might be a possibility to line the Z's up under the Vulcan for a photo shoot too 8-)

Been to the antique fair there many times and always thought it would be nice to go in the museum instead of driving past. With that in mind count me in.Think Koolflyer is Loughborough based? . . . same as me so could start the convoy early! Went out in the morning sunshine today, hood down to try the newly bought wind deflector :D Listening to the rain on the window at this moment I wouldn't want to be doing it now !!

Yes, Barrow upon Soar, so is RockyDave.......sounds a plan :). I retro fitted OEM hoops and wind deflector back in October, so I too am looking forward to a good run.

Hi, I know barrow. Bought my deflector off eBay as they appear cheap this time of year when no-one wants to use 'em!! Got a minter with original storage bag and the longer studs for £59, that will do me. Summer and they're up to £90 odd!
Can pick Pingu up en route :) BB

Unless they have moved it, it's the first Aircraft you see as you go in through the gate. If I remember correctly I think you can pay an extra few quid and go in it.

Great to see the positive response :)
The date is in the diary, now all we need is some decent summer weather so we can all appreciate some proper "top down" driving :D
It will also be an added incentive to finish off all those part started jobs!

I have been PM'd to ask whether this post is a BMWCC event, no is the answer. Purely myself and R Dave combining a trip out in the Z's with a bit of aviation, that's all. Newark did say that they normally try to get a photo shoot under the Vulcan, so fingers crossed. :sunny

I'd be up for this - the last time I went to the Newark Museum was in 1990 for a Club GTI meet! As an ex member of the 'Royal Flying Corps' it will be a good trip down memory lane. :D

I seem to remember that the nice lady at Newark said if we get 15+ there would be a slight discount, which we now have, but don't hold me to that. Might pay for a sarnie and cuppa :geek:

Are we going to try and meet up and drive in together??? There's a big lorry park 3-4 miles away which will be almost empty on a weekend. We could maybe organise a time to meet there? :)

I don't know what time they let you in but if someone a bit more in the know is aware we can go from there. I'll dig out a postcode and post it on here. Just thought if we all met up might be nice to grab a few pics before we head up there.

Update: postcode for Newark lorry park is NG24 1BL. :)

The museum opens at 10am. If anyone interested wants to run up together if we meet at 10am at the lorry park and leave at 10.30 to go to the museum? It's only a ten minute drive from door to door.
Anyone interested please state your interest here and will get ourselves a mini cruise!!!! :drive
