Ahhh very nice! There was 2 supercharger kits reviewed in performance BMW last month for the z3 2.8 model reported at the 400bhp mark....
Re: Eaton supercharger questions
Hi
I have just had my unit rebuilt and from what i can see the yours is in is very good condition
Also a suggestion I would advise is put a oil catcher tank on your pcv valve assy also a inline filter to cat any extra oil vapours my unit was a bloody mess when I stripped it down with all of the oil inside.
I have just finished a mileage check and around the city I am getting 31 MPH compared to 26mph before the rebuild also the car feels more responsive

That's a good increase in speed!

Thanks for the info johnt I think I'm just going to rebuild the snout with new bearings and seals and possibly do the rear needle bearings while it's out. I was just curious as to what the bore and rotor tips should look like having never seen one stripped. Can't even find any decent pics on google!

Have you tried moving the waggly stick in the middle away from the '1' position?jont wrote:

Re: Eaton supercharger questions
My experience is limited but ................
The rotors are housed central in the bearings at each end and rotate central to the casing.
They should not come into contact with the casing at all unless the bearings get knackered or
the rotors distort under extreme heat or rpm.
Scouring is a sure sign to me that there is a problem.
That is as far as my knowledge base goes on this subject.

With regards to the oil catch can where would this be placed? On the hose that comes off the ICV then recirculate it back into the intake or vent to atmosphere? Thanks
Re: Eaton supercharger questions
Connect hose to the PCV then into oil catcher can then out of can into intake manifold & put a fuel filter in between the outlet from the to the intake manifold.
Oh one more thing do not purchase a catcher can with a top vent it has to be a sealed unit, this is the type you want.

Re: Eaton supercharger questions
As said by Vic, I think the scoring is not a good sign.
The clearance between the tips of the rotors and the casing need to be very fine and scores on both suggest there's play in your bearings or something has run through the blower, like dirt/sand and has abraded the surfaces. Basically, the pressure side will always try to find it's way to the none pressure side of the blower, so you're just wasting a whole load of energy if the seals have gone.
I'd suggest you contact the manufacturer or a specialist and get their opinion as there's litte point in putting a 'cream crackered' unit on the car that could potentially cause you some much bigger issues. I'd have thought there are several plating techniques that could be used to bring this back to serviceable, as essentially the casing's not a wear and tear item, nor are the rotor tips.
I'd sure as hell make sure I put in the best bearings of the appropriate spec, which I'd want the manufacturer to confirm.
Bimmerforums seems to have a lot of people with knowledge of FI/blowers.
We have a Vortech V2-SQ on our M52-TU 2.8, but it runs incredibly low boost, 6 psi. It's the ESS conversion and has been brilliant, for the passed 13 years!

Thanks for the input again everyone found this thread which was helpful.

Seems the score marks are common on this charger. I also found some pics online where the bearings had worn and the rotors are in a lot worse state at the end they've gone. I'm taking the eaton into a bloke at work tomorrow to see what he says. I did show him the pictures and he said looks like normal ware and tare.

Re: Eaton supercharger questions
Just to follow this up I took the charger to a bloke at work that's worked on them before and he said that the marks are just from general use and it's in pretty good nick! On closer inspection the marks on the rotors are just in the coating it's not worn any of the metal away again he said this can be caused by very small pieces of debris flowing through and is nothing to worry about as the tolerances are that fine your going to get marks. The bearings have no play what so ever so I'm thinking I may just change the oil and regrease the needle bearings and see how we go.
Re: Eaton supercharger questions
Do you notice its a lot faster with a charger? I am thinking of doing my 1.9
Re: Eaton supercharger questions
Anyone?
