Irish M Roadster
Irish M Roadster
Hello All, I'm a newb on here, recently joined as I am looking at potentially getting an M Roadster. Haven't actually been able to see any in the flesh as 3 that I have contacted sold this week (spring coming?).
At the lower end of the budget there is the ex-Welsh now Irish Estoril M
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... an/2119010
I called the guy today, he seemed genuine and willing to discuss the car. Its not the most pristine M out there but it is the cheapest, he says its priced low to attract UK buyers as in Ireland road tax is very high for it (new legilsation taking effect). The following emerged from our talk
- Car was exported in 2004 and sold by Cameron Cars of Dublin (Porsche / performance car specialist)
- Up to 04 it had a full BMW main dealer SH, 60k miles (car now on 91k miles)
- There are old MOTs and NCTs (Irish equivalent) but no real service history as such since 2004
- Its had 3 owners since 2004
- The car has been serviced in recent years by local garages, I assume things like Vanos oil change and valve clearances have not been verified
- Roof lets a few drops in from px side when being washed
- Px window a bit lazy
- Front lights a bit cloudy
So, at £5k, would you?
Thanks for any feedback!

Re: Irish M Roadster
If you do the usual checks, boot floor etc, sound cheap to me.
I would say just make sure it is the 'car' you want colour spec, mileage. As you might wish you waited.

Re: Irish M Roadster
I must admit when I saw it for sale at that price I thought about ringing him myself...., its a very cheap car if the condition isn't to bad. you'd have to go and see it but the miles wouldn't put me off if I wanted one to use regularly.
Re: Irish M Roadster
As long as there's proof of services been carried out by local garage nothing like a bunch of receipts to back up claims. I've found out the expensive way that a neglected history can have consequences.

Re: Irish M Roadster
I like the colour and spec (no hardtop a plus for me, most other things such as aircon etc seem to be standard anyways), though the mileage is high for what I'm used to.
I need to find out a bit more on the history, its the main thing putting me off. He is supposed to email me some pics, lets see what comes through. Will keep you posted!

Well, the vendor has emailed me some pictures but they aren't that great, plus I had requested some of the engine and boot area (welds) and haven't heard anything back since Tuesday. Its not looking like he wants the hassle of a long distance sale...

Hi everybody, I'm new to the forum.. Just wanted to say hello...
Right then... Down to business..
Bit the Bullet, paid £62 Ryanair flight Leeds/Bradford to Dublin. Got picked up by the owner Adam.
Drove over to his beautiful house in Kikdare.
Z3 M was parked outside stone cold.
Bodywork 7/10
Interior 7/10
Vanos purred like a kitten, drove superbly well. Dead straight. New discs, pads, all round. 4 new tyres. New rear suspension.
Body work very good, nice and straight for 15 year old car.
Irish hpi confirmed mileage correct, lots of paper work.
Deal done £4500 GPB
Bargain of the decade!!!!
I very pleased. Now tucked away in my garage in Huddersfield.
Thanks

very well done!!!, absolute bargain!!!!
Re: Irish M Roadster
Hi All,
Thanks for all your kind comments.
I'm really really pleased with the purchase.
He'd had loads of calls, but no one willing to go across the pond to view.
I spoke to him once and that was it! As soon as I got off phone I booked my flight, Thursday evening and was there in Dublin for 8am the next morning. Just go for it.. I've always taken chances. Plus he sounded and is a very genuine guy with Irish road tax for the Z at 1850Euro! Ouch! Otherwise he would never sell.
Big folder full of recipes and nct (mot) the Irish nct is far stringent than a uk mot. The later one passed in January this year. Irish hpi confirmed all mots & ncts and mileage is dead on at 90977.
It's drives superbly well, the rumble of the evo engine is sublime. Gear change it firm and precise..
I'll get some pictures up shortly.
Thanks Sidshark

Well done on the purchase!
I was one of the people that called Adam but, to be fair, he didn't inspire much confidence. He didn't mention about the receipts or anything like that. Also, being a Z3 newb, I didn't quite feel confident on taking a flight to see my first one! (only earlier today I sat in one for thr first time and its kind of small for me).
You gave it 7/10, seems about fair from his description on the phone, I figured I'm more after a 9/10 car.
Still, sounds like great fun hopping over there to buy it!

Re: Irish M Roadster
£4,500 for a 7/10 condition M Roadster is a steal quite frankly...I usually keep an eye on the market and one in that described condition would be typically be a couple of £k more depending on time of year more so buyer did well It's these kind of prices that make me think there is no way I'd sell up, what the heck could you replace it with that kind of money
If you are after a near minter have you contacted the chap on here who is selling his Estoril - Liam I think?

Re: Irish M Roadster
I think £5200 or £5400 has been the cheapest Z3M I've seen advertised anywhere in the past year or so when I've been (occassionally) following the prices. £4500 and not requiring major work is a steal. Sidshark, I wholeheartedly congratulate you on your purchase of what is possibly UK's cheapest working M Roadster.

Re: Irish M Roadster
Hi All, in all honesty I reckon £400-£500 pounds will make the cars bodywork excellent, I'd say a close 10/10.
Just minor stone chips to front bumper and bonnet, 2 small scuffs to bumper corner & small mark on rear bumper.
Here are some pics while at Dublin port waiting to come home. (Sorry about the quality)

Ok Then,
Just took the Zed in for a UK Mot. Passed with no advisories.
While it was up on the ramp, I took the advantage of having a good lunch underneath, safe to say that the Zed is as rock solid underneath as it is above!
Now onto getting it registered to drive on the UK roads...
Thanks

Re: Irish M Roadster
Since the car has been Mot'd. I'm still awaiting the dvla form to re-register the car for uk roads again. So it's frustrating having the car parked in my garage and not being able to stretch its legs, legally.
That said, the weather has been good today, so I decide to pull the Zed out for a quick cheeky run...
Bloody hell!! It's fast... It pulls viciously in every gear, the vanos kicks in very hard, and the exhaust starts to howl at the top end!
Needless to say, the short spin turned into a bit of an afternoon driver.
Very impressed with the Zed. I've been luck enough to own Quite a few M cars over the years, and this one just hits the sweet spot every time...
Thanks ...

Hi All.
The Z3 M Roadster is now for sale.
Didn't want to sell, after all the hassle (fun) of bringing it over.
However I am now getting a 993 Turbo shortly.
Thanks
