The seller is expecting £400 for these. At least that's what his cash price was!!
I'd be concerned that, if the auction ends much lower than that, he might refuse to sell.

Good Luck to you all, I hope someone on the forum ends up with them!

I recently bought a pair of these in a lot worse condition. The problem is that red & black sport and M seats are very very rare.

Hi, I'm the seller of the seats. The winning bidder changed his mind and didn't come for them. Anyone else interested? They'll need picking up from Manchester. The winning bid was £265 so I'll take that, although as someone said, it seems like a bargain for seats this good. chris@brown.pm

I know, I certainly thought so.

I'm just waiting on a 1/8"bsp connector for my airbrush as ive decided to dye the armrest and door cards red,
The trouble is, the seller seems to think the seats are Imola red and I'm not sure they are, I'm convinced they are tanin red.
Gliptone LTD are just around the corner from me but they wouldn't allow me to take a seat for a colour match, I certainly wasn't cutting the seat to provide a sample so I'll be dying these imola red together with the door cards etc.
I'm also tempted to dye the tonneau cover too.

It seems you, SouthernBoy and myself are all about ready to be re-dying.

I have some tanin red dye which I can apply to a scrap of leather and send to you if you like - that why you will know if they are Tanin or not

That's very kind of you sir...But I've already purchased an Imola red scuffmaster kit and just begun the dye process.
according to this:-http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh ... st24205719
There's not much difference between Imola and Tanin

I've just finished an arm rest from Barry about 5 minutes ago using a foam pad application. It looks spot on, I'm very happy.

I'm hoping my airbrush part comes tomorrow so I can crack on with the seats....I've got the bug!

I first practised on an old Auto leather gear knob and I found to avoid streaks... the first 2 coats should be applied with a quick dab technique (As you've just discovered), then a further 2 coats with a foam pad to lightly apply the dye.
similar to this video at 8min 26 sec

I'll wait a day or so and then apply some of the infamous Nipple cream!

We really need to communicate more effectively here... we might have got a "group buy" discount from scuffmaster.... :D
I like what Bertiejaffa wrote in his journal... he remarked that using a small foam roller gave the best finish.... anyone contemplating this process might be advised to invest in one...

hmmmm its not going so well :(
:head:

I'm calling it a night with spraying, I'm not a happy bunny.

I had to water the scuffmaster down not 15 to 20% to spray as recommended by gliptone but quite a lot more to push it through the airbrush.
(about 4 glug units from the tap)
actually i measured with a syringe....10ml of dye, 4ml of water and mixed thoroughly (40%).
Ive done 4 or 5 coats on the seat and 3 on the back rests at which point i said to myself (Bollox to this) then i gave up.

Im not the best with colours but im pretty sure this Imola red is leaning towards pink, not only that but it looks very plastic'y despite applying light coats and drying thoroughly between each, assisted with a hair dryer.

I may have to call it a failed mission, use thinners to remove it all and just dye the lot black.
Or remove it all and try the foam pad/mini roller approach
I'll See how i feel in the morning

*EDIT*
I've just been back for round 2:-

I applied 1 coat of neat dye with a foam pad by dabbing.....it looks better already (Phew!).
So my conclusion thus far is don't use an airbrush & Dont water scuffmaster down.
I cant even blame my air brush here as its a pretty good one (AB133 Dual Action)

I realise this has been posted in the stock exchange, I will, when Ive finished this project, post my pics, progress and findings

dont give up... I have had so many frustrating moments doing the dash. To be honest the pics make it look more tanin red than anything else. It will all look good in the end I am more than sure

Question: how did you get the masking tape to tuck in so well?

Thanks for the encouragement chaps, theres one thing for sure....This job cannot be rushed. It mustve taken me a couple of hours just to masking tape up.

I used an SD Card to tuck the masking tape in....not just any SD Card, This is a 16GB Kodak SD Card! :)

I think I'm a little disappointed as I liked the 'Unknown' colour they were originally.....too late now, besides the drivers ass area needed doing see this pic:-

Oh what a difference foam application makes :)

same seat after a further 3 coats of neat dye using a foam pad.
The plastic look has gone and its a much nicer richer colour.

Now I am a happy bunny.

Thats it for now...I will start a detailed thread on this experience when I'm done in the beauty parlour in the next week or so
