A few pics from the France trip
A few pics from the France trip
Hey all,
Thought I'd post a couple of "Zed pics" from my recent two-week trip to France. We covered 2200 miles averaging 33mpg: visiting Rouen, the Loire, Brittany, and Normandy. Great trip! Driving in France is such a breeze. The roof was down for two weeks
I was surprised at just how much stuff you can fit in the Zed. The car was full when we left, yet there was still room to bring back loads of wine
Waiting for the Ferry at Calais - front of the queue!

And a couple from beautiful France...

Re: A few pics from the France trip
Looks like you had a fantastic time, myself and the wife love France and should have been away for two weeks in June but unfortunately had to cancel due to personal reasons but we have already booked for next year staying in a chateau on the South Brittany-Loire border, we to are going in the Zed as for us the driving around France with the roof down is what the holiday is all about. Pleased you had a good time. The big question is, would you do it again ???
Cheers

Good to see others who find that a Z3 is capable of more than a short trip!
Never mind about the Loire area - go further, and explore the mountains between Grenoble and Nice. Your ideas about great roads will never be the same again! We first explored this area in 1970, by Austin-Healey Sprite, and still enjoy returning, even if just passing through to the Stelvio Pass and Switzerland!
1970 - Sprite on the Petit-St. Bernard
2005 - Z3 at summit of Col de l'Iseran
2006 - Z3 on Stelvio Pass
2010 - Z3 on the old St. Gotthard Pass
2011 - Z3 climbing the Col de l'ISeran

Great pictures of stunning scenery. How did the car perform? Z or the sprite?

Some great pictures.
We are off to France at the end of August and doing Honfleur and the Loire. Great part of France, one of our favourites.

Phil; If you are doing Loire visit us at La Gacilly in Morbihan - a nice drive into south east brittany and go for a trip on out boats www.day-boats.com. You can combine with a trip to Loudeac motor museum as well

Re: A few pics from the France trip
Once I get off the ferry in France I feel relaxed and at home - driving is still a pleasure here - I'm sure you will enjoy your hols - but watch out for the Priorite a Driot at any junction which does not have a definite signt that you have priorite! Revise the French road signs well before you leave. If you would like a write-up on driving in France, and Prioritie a Droit, email me on ozimandius@wanadoo.fr.
Both the Sprite, the Z3 enjoys being used in France, and (so far) the Z3 has remained as reliable, in spite of its age and mileage - long may it do so!

We are staying at Fontevraud near Saumur and then moving onto Cangey near Chaumont. Brittany is a bit out of the way I'm afraid.Mike wrote:Phil; If you are doing Loire visit us at La Gacilly in Morbihan - a nice drive into south east brittany and go for a trip on out boats http://www.day-boats.com. I have serious wine tasting/purchasing plans afoot!!

An interesting visit in the Loire area is the Tank Museum at Saumur - signposted as the 'Musee des Blindes,' it is on the southern side of the river, in the higher part of town. Parking is good, and Saumur has plenty of hotel, restaurants, and campsites.

x2 on visiting Saumur. It's lovely.
Nearby Candes-Saint-Martin is also worth a stop. We had a lovely picnic on the hill overlooking the loire. Bought some delicious raspberries from an old lady in the village on the walk up. Yum.

Some of the famous chateaux look as if they are falling down, but in addition to Chenonceaux, two others are outstanding - Azay-le-Rideau, 15 miles SW of Tours, and Chambourd, about 30 miles SW of Orleans.
