High All.
I've got the fairly common issue of the rolling ignition barrel. The ignition has stuck on the full turn so it is stuck in position with the electrics on.
I have taken out the battery for the time being so i can jump start it if needed.
I had a look at a video showing how to take the barrel out, but i have had no luck.
I called a local car locksmith company who called BMW who said they dont have any barrels and they is no lead time on when a new one ould be made, so im guessing weeks.
Does anyone know what or where i can get one from or is there anything else i can do to try and get the current switch out
any advice much appreciated
thanks

First off, try a bit of lubrication in the barrel to see if that helps - also try putting a bit of a 'shock' into it by tapping it with a hammer. The actual electrical switch is attached to the bottom of the barrel and can be removed so that I can be turned separately from the barrel. I've not had cause to dismantle this myself, so can't give exact instructions.

Re: Urgent Advice needed on Ignition Barrel Issue
Have a careful look from underneath the fitting... remove the cowling - There are one or two small pins, I have an idea that it / they have something to do with the ability of the barrel to turn. I had this problem some years ago, and I really can't recall the details of if I removed the barrel of the lock, or not. But I do recall there was something which I approached from below, and fitted back into it's slot or something... Wish I could be more specific, but it was probably 10 years ago...

Thanks for your advice one and all. I managed to get in touch of a friend of a friend who's a BMW mechanic. He's hopefully going to take a look at it for me today

Good Luck - can you share any findings/techniques he may have in addition to those shown in other threads?waynerp wrote:Thanks for your advice one and all. I managed to get in touch of a friend of a friend who's a BMW mechanic. He's hopefully going to take a look at it for me today
Re: Urgent Advice needed on Ignition Barrel Issue
I will let you know tomorrow, as I completely wasted an afternoon. I decided to try and bump start the car to take it to the mechanics and failed miserably. the car wouldn't start and I ended down the bottom of a step hill and had to call the AA. Waited near on 2 hours, only for him to start it in under 1 minute making me look like a complete numpty.
So he has shown me how to bypass the ignition and start it with a wire under the bonnet.
So I will attempt to take it to the mechanics tomorrow!
