Z3M Boot tools and accessories
Can someone who is justifiably proud of their OEM boot floor and tools kit etc please post a picture so that I can see what mine should look like?
At the moment it seems to have been a victim of a spate of metal thefts and I'm taking a zero tolerance approach to bits of my lovely new motor that are missing.
Thanks

The roadster toolkit is less comprehensive:
Only one spanner, no plumbers wrench and no S-shaped thing (allen key?).
Cheers R.

Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
What sizes is the spanner for roadster? Looks like I am missing one...
Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
The M has no jack or angled wheelbrace, and no spaces for them. You have the wrong tray on the right.Emek wrote:Here you go:
The tray on the left is correct, but the locking wheelnut adaptor is missing.
Surveyor. I bought some tools off eBay and the 8mm/10mm spanner is not a good fit in the tray. Even though the tools have the correct part numbers, they are NOT all the same. The best thing you can do is to take an empty tray to a BMW salvage yard and get tools that fit the tray . I wish I had done that.
The other spanner is 12mm/13mm.

Pingu - my tray looks just like that and i have the brace and jack. Was like that when I bought the car at 6-yrs old so think its standard fit.

Tomorrow, I'll post a photo of my right tray - I bet you can't wait .

Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
You better add a new tray and jack to the list of jobs to do

After the long, patient wait, here's a photo of my boot...
No need to add to the list of jobs to do. When I got the car, a jack, cranked wheelbrace and tray were in there.

Mine is slightly different. I have an extra slot on the left and an extra locking nut. The right is as supplied when the car was delivered over 17 years ago.
I'll try and download a pic

Hey pingu whenever I look at your car in the future I will be thinking under that beautiful paint job lays a very dark secret.

Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
Thanks for all the input on this one, I now have what I beieve to be the full set beneath the boot carpet.
A couple of members on here supplied me with some parts as well.
Was pleased with a sealed period (well it is a 2002) first aid kit delivered from ebay for £5.50.
The mobility kit looks the part (and the compressor works) but some of the guts are still missing. I had no response to a call for spares on here so will keep looking.

Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
Tilly mine is exactly the same as yours and I was always under the impression I was missing a spanner due to the empty slot on the left but very interesting to hear it was how it was supplied from new.
Strange though how there is a disparity between toolboxes.

Hi Aceman,
Mine was a pre launch car sent to a main agent in Germany a couple of months before the world press launch. I would imagine in the design they produced a single tray which would cater for different markets. Maybe the different content reflects this and possibly changing requirements over the years.
Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
Interesting mine is a very early one with a build date of Jan '98 so could be one from the initial production runs I guess.

Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
That is an early UK car. Mine was built Feb 97 and was in the first couple of hundred built, excluding the few manufactured for pre launch testing.aceman wrote:Interesting mine is a very early one with a build date of Jan '98 so could be one from the initial production runs I guess.
So we own two oldies.
Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
Wow that is early my vin is LB06201 so maybe mine is the first off the production after the initial preproduction run you speak of.

Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
Somewhere on this site is a reference to how you can put in the VIN and get details of when your car was manufactured and for which market.aceman wrote:Wow that is early my vin is LB06201 so maybe mine is the first off the production after the initial preproduction run you speak of.
Digging around I have managed to get these facts. I am sure they are fairly accurate but if anybody disagrees please chip in.
LB 06000 was the first in a EUR S50 production run which started in 05/97 and finished in 06/00 with LD07143. I would think that these are the right hand drive versions for various markets, not only EUR. That is a total of 1144 S50 roadsters. So yours is an early one.
The first EUR S50 was LD2000( this was probably the first M Roadster built in the world) built in 04/96. That run finished with LD21764 in 09/97(1765) cars. Not all the vin numbers were used but the full production line started in 01/97 with I believe LD20087. Mine is LD 20252. I believe these are the left hookers.
A second run started with LD21900(10/97) and finished with LD 23817(11/98) a total of 1918 cars, again left hookers. That would be a maximum total run of 4827 S50 Roadsters built.
In the USA they built 8079 S52 Roadsters between 05/98 and 07/00.
With the S54 version I believe there could have been 135 right hookers and 384 EUR left hookers built between 04/00 and 05/02. In the USA they built 1565 S54's between 02/00 and 09/01.
If my arithmetic is correct that is a maximum of 14990 cars. I say max since a few of the vin numbers were not apparently used and some of the numbers were for prototype cars and crash testing.
Grief it appears that I am turning out to be an anorack. Time for a glass of wine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
Mine is 6113 and was first brought over to the UK in Jan 1998 when they started selling them over here - with it being the first in the UK mine was owned by the director of BMW UK when it was first brought over and used on Top Gear a few weeks later
Re: Z3M Boot tools and accessories
That is a great provenance. If 6113 was the first on the road in the UK and I am correct in my assumption that 6000 was the first right hooker, where did the first 114 cars end up. Either they went to other markets or some or many were held by distributors prior to UK launch.bertiejaffa wrote:Mine is 6113 and was first brought over to the UK in Jan 1998 when they started selling them over here - with it being the first in the UK mine was owned by the director of BMW UK when it was first brought over and used on Top Gear a few weeks later
I wonder if LB 6000 is in the UK? Maybe as the S54 group have a list of their cars I wonder if we should start with the S50 cars?

Mine is LB 06588, Aug '98
Someone clever could correlate numbers and dates in a sticky or whatever, not me though

Mines like this but I'm missing the jack and wheel brace. Any idea where I can get them?Tilly wrote:Tilly wrote:Mine is slightly different. I have an extra slot on the left and an extra locking nut. The right is as supplied when the car was delivered over 17 years ago.

The white bag is a desiccant, made in the USA, which was shipped over with the car around the jack.
