Tank range

Post by Smartbear »

Just been away in the z3 for a few days in Suffolk, very nice cruising round the countryside with the roof down a fair bit :)
Filled up on our way back to Chelmsford with 344 miles on the trip & 43.46 litres to brim it again, I make that 36.3mpg.
Pleasantly surprised at that-anybody with a 2.2 got much better?

I got 35mpg measuring the way you did on a recent holiday to Rutland. Did your fuel light come on when you filled up at 344 miles?

Pleeeeaaaase not another MPG topic

Smartbear you should not be driving a sportscar as if you were auditioning for the remake of "Driving Miss Daisy" :)

Anyone who gets more than 30 MPG should be ashamed of themselves and should immediately trade their Zed in for a nice sensible hybrid Hyundai or some other piece of far Eastern motoring blancmange

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

If l drove my Ferrari carefully l could squeeze 18 mpg out of it.

Normal driving gave about 14.

Johannesburg - Durban is 620km... I fill up 1/2 way and just make it to Dbn.... but then when one can do 220kph + on the motorway - illegally - it's worth the cost... :sunny

Not sure how to reply to this? I was driving up to the legal limits (& beyond sometimes) I don't agree that outright speed is always a mark of a satisfying drive-I find it more of a test of skill by driving smoothly & anticipating events ahead.
If you can do this well your mpg will rise & the risk to your license will go down

I'll see you at a petrol station one day.... :D

I have had regular 16mpg's too, in fact my Z4M was positively frugal in comparison at a regular 21mpg

The consumption isn't helped by the fact I have a 2 mile journey to work and it never gets warm, plus it comprises a short length of dual carriageway and I can't help "stretching my legs" on occasions.

I have had 32mpg out of it once... miss Daisy was well pleased..

Oh God

Who'll be the first to state that one brand of petrol gives them +2% MPG and saves them 6 pence on every tankful?

..and if that same person then says "help, my roof is leaking above the driver's door" :head:

I manage 150 on country roads mainly through 3rd to 4th gear fun to 275-300 on a moterway cruise in the ///M and average 200-250 on usual x3 commutes to work (150) and mini runs out in a average week.

Shame on you Mr Gookah you have succumbed.

You'll be hugging trees and building a wind farm in your back garden next. You seem to be turning into the sort of chap who'd be stressing over his carbon footprint.

Erm...

Forgive me for asking but whilst I have your attention, does your roof leak?

Y'know, above the driver's door?

Of course it does, and I saved 6p on my tankful incidentally.

I know I have sinned, but in my defence the tankful previous was actually 15.49 mpg..
I don't know what went so terribly wrong. Maybe the fact my wife was in her Z3 behind me for the whole journey

It's the price you pay for the fuel you use to get from A to B that counts.

Paying less for the same brand = :D .

Getting the fuel enroute rather than making a detour = :D

but, the real top tip is...

Doing less miles can be :D :D :D :D .

Knocking 10% distance off a journey means you can have 10% worse fuel consumption and have more fun for the same money :drive :thumb:

Andover to Nottingham was 150 miles by motorway / dual carriageway, or 130 by shortest route. Both routes cost the same, but one was A LOT more fun.

Perhaps the miles in the UK are really kilometers - the consumptions some quote here are hardly believable... :puzzle:
