MY ZM ROADSTER FOR SALE

Post by mike powell »

Hi all.
I have not been an active member on the site since my wife Heather died unexpectedly in 2007. My ZM is now for sale, I know a lot of you will remember her from those Lake District trips we used to go on. All details are on Gumtree. I am asking £8500. but willing to negotiate. Give me a ring if you are interested. Mike.

Just to let you all know my ZM now sold to a nice guy called Oliver from London. He knows about this site, so I expect you will see him on it soon after he gets over the excitement of ownership. Nice knowing you all, sad to see her go after 13 years but will just have to console myself with my Jag XKR convertible :D

Hi all,

As Mike mentioned, I am the proud owner of the Roadster. I'm currently loving M ownership, particularly the way that the engine pulls above 4500rpm. However, there are a few things that need sorting so any advice would be fantastic. Ideally the hood needs replacing and the MOT flagged a few serious sounding issues, namely a corroded front spring, worn front suspension arm & macpherson strut and a corroded anti-roll bar.

Can anyone let me know how urgent these issues are? Obviously i expect these issues to affect the handling of the car, but i'm not sure whether they require urgent specialist attention.

Pics below.

Thanks all!

Hi no they do not need immediate attention. Corrosion on bmw springs is common. The bushes may need doing and will affect handling and so would a leaking shock bus corrosion will not

Congrats on your purchase - it looks lovely.

It will complement quite nicely your other toy shown in the last photo!

Hi and welcome.
I assume that the "problems" you mention were "advisories" on the MOT. Advisories can be a strange phenomena that can vary from one inspector to another. The car presumably did not fail the MOT and so in the opinion of the inspector it is roadworthy. A badly rusted coil spring is possibly more likely to break going over a sharp bump and so might need replacing in due course. The problem/wear with the control arm/strut is not clear from what you say and I am surprised that surface rust on an ARB was even mentioned.

In my locality one MOT inspector when testing my daily driver (not the Z3) always mentions (as an advisory) that both the underside and engine have plastic covers which obscure certain items from view whereas other MOT inspectors have never mentioned this "problem". This strikes me as a ridiculous "backside covering" exercise on his behalf - what corrective action am I supposed to make? - remove OE fitted covers?

Like Del I am assuming that the all the items with the exception of the hood showed up as advisory issues in the MOT Test, I do not think the issues sound too serious considering the age of your car. It basically sounds like you will have to re-fresh the front suspension components, these are all bolt on parts and are readily available, you will need to make a choice between OEM and aftermarket parts but that will be a choice only you can make.

Enjoy your car :)
