RockyDave spotted this nice motor but although it appears to have all the paperwork and stamps, is only 29k after 12+ really a good thing? It has been said on here on a number of occasions that on a car with so many years under it belt to only have clocked up barely 'running in' mileage may not be a good thing. Just shy of 7500 notes seems pretty high to me even though it might look good, but what lurks beneath?? Suppose its the chance you take

Wouldn't be for me Pete. Valve stem oil seals etc will be hard due to lack of use. These very low mileage cars generally give a lot more bother than cars used everyday. I do worry a bit with mine, it only does 1500 a year but it had done 80k odd when I bought it.
Re: 2001 Z3 2.2 Sport Roadster for sale
I would always go for a lower mileage car. Mine runs as sweet as the day I bought it 7 years ago and still on less than 27k. Just make sure it's serviced correctly.

Why some people pay thousands more for lower mileage is beyond me, especially with something as bullitproof as "most BMW's. Condition and how it's been looked after are far more important in my book. I have owned lots of BM's, the last one a E46 328ci (same engine as my '98 Z3 with 164k on the clock and it drove just as well as my Z3 which has "only" 66k!

In love with driving again (its the Z effect)

Cars were designed to be used, not as static objects. If you don't use anything for the purpose it was intended, then you are asking for trouble.

It's pretty but my opinion is that you can pick up the same car with "normal" mileage for 2500 and have 5k to spend on mods and servicing and I bet you would still have 2-3k change
Re: 2001 Z3 2.2 Sport Roadster for sale
agreed - strange psychology - my 3.0l of that age has 123k on the clock and is just warming up...
the taxi to the airport the other day was an audi A6 with 340k on the clock and ran as new...

For that money you could buy my pristine show winning 2002 3.0 M Sport in Topaz Blue with cream leather interior.
I had the front resprayed at BMW so there is not a single stone chip.
The underside, engine bay etc are also mint.
There's a hard top, tonneau cover and wind deflector plus full history and four new tyres.
Mileage is 57,000.
It's not really for sale, but since getting into mountain biking (and buying two Land Rover Defenders lol) l've not been using it that much.

A5 - 115,0000
Z3 - 145,000
Z3M - 90,000
Kia - 90,000
my old 3 series tourer that I traded in for the A5 was 9 years old and had 180,000 miles - ran beautifully, in-fact when I dropped it off on the day of the swap there was someone in the forecourt asking how much they wanted for it while the engine was still warm !
Re: 2001 Z3 2.2 Sport Roadster for sale
Ive been testing a home/ work commute of 126 miles per day all this week (with work paying for the fuel . I should hit 630 miles by the time I get home on Friday
The Z3 is currently showing 97k on the clock and hasn't missed a beat all week.
its also a fairly comfy motorway cruiser

One of my Land Rovers broke down last week, and l was recovered by the RAC (turned out to be a faulty aftermarket fuel cutoff)
The 12 years old Mercedes recovery truck looked very clean and the driver said it ran great. Mileage on the truck? 900,000
That's the highest mileage vehicle l have been in, although l'm sure there are higher mileages. He said the engine had never been out. But he said it's on the road 24/7 (the drivers do 12 hour shifts) so never does cold starts/short journeys which is when most of the wear occurs.

An english neighbour of mine here in Spain has a Rover 75 (BMW 2 litre diesel) which he brought over from the uk and has owned for some years. Mileage? Over 500k miles which is heading towards a million kilometres and original engine running as sweet as a nut! (Rest of car excellent as well!)
Re: 2001 Z3 2.2 Sport Roadster for sale
It really all depends on how those scant miles were accumulated. In June of 2013 I bought a 2000 Z3 2.3 with just a tad over 20K miles. At that point the car was 13 years old. I've not had any problems with gaskets or seals, though I did change some hoses and belts for peace of mind. It's been a great fairweather car for me and I've racked up 10K miles over the past 2 years on it.
