2.8 change of wheels
2.8 change of wheels
Just replaced my 1.9 with a 1999 Topaz blue 2.8 and was thinking about changing the wheels - has standard wheels at the moment.
Ideally would like some wire wheels to make the car look even more retro than it already is!
Is it possible to get wire wheels but with the BMW badge in the middle? And does anyone know where the best place to look is?
Have seen different BMW designs, but none really have that wire wheel look.

Thanks for the link.
Do you know if it is possible to fit a BMW centre cap to non-bmw wheels?
I have seen some wire wheels that look great, but aren't BMW wheels - any idea if wire wheels are as stong as the alloy wheels?

Re: 2.8 change of wheels
The wheels you get need to have the same bolt spacing PCD 5x120 and preferably same offset as you existing wheels and also the centre bore needs to be the same to locate correctly on the hub. Z3 is 72.5mm
The wheel centre bore to fit the centre caps is 68 mm

2.8 change of wheels
I just found this amazing website called 'Google'. It has a very simplistic layout, but I just typed in to the box "BMW Z3 wire wheels" and surely enough this was the 3rd result down:

It worked well this time, but I don't think 'Google' will ever catch on...

Apologies for the overwhelming, underlying sarcasm in my last post... It's been a long day!

Are you hinting that it would have been easier to put 4 words into Google, rather than 84 words into a post to achieve a similar result?
however that did not answer the BMW badges question..
Z3 2.8 Progress Journal (Mine)
Z3 1.9 Sport Progress Journal (Wifey's)
I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..
Re: 2.8 change of wheels
But $600 + delivery per wheel aint cheap.
Here's a UK site but it says the wheels are discontinued and only available as long as stocks last.

No problem. Looked at this site, but the cost and shipping looked too much unfortunately!David wrote:Also see here:

Always better to hear if someone has actually used a company - Mr Google doesn't usually tell you they are any good or not!

Re: 2.8 change of wheels
Apart from being a sod to clean, how do they keep the air inside a tubeless tyre? I could not see any reference to this on their website.
A Z3 is not just for Christmas - it's for life!
Re: 2.8 change of wheels
There is some kind of seal over the spoke holes in the rim, but this is only available on MWS's larger wires. I read about them when I was looking for a replacement set for my frog - I just run normal tyres with innertubes on mine. I did encounter a company that did custom wire wires when we were at Silverstone a couple of years back - they reckoned that they could do tubeless even on a 13" wheel, but they were going to be very expensive.Mike Fishwick wrote:Apart from being a sod to clean, how do they keep the air inside a tubeless tyre?
