Is it just me?

Post by Boosh »

Is it just me making a fool of myself, or do you guys flash your lights/wave at other Z3 drivers? I've had a couple of funny looks, but no friendly reply, yet..
Or shall I just put my blinkers on and be miserable?
Boosh.

I always wave, having had a few MG's in the past and they being known as the marc of freindship,I have got into the habbit of waving to every Z3/4 I pass. Having said that don't see many in Mid Wales.

I usually flash and wave at oncoming Z3s. :wave

The best reaction comes when I forget that I'm not in MY Zed....

However, when I AM in The Roadster and give a wave:

About 50% of blokes will respond, yet women either don't notice, or choose to ignore it.
I guess that's reflected in the proportion of men : women who are members on this forum.

And I learned a long time ago not to bother waving at oncoming Z4s. They just don't even acknowledge that Z3s are related!

Or....maybe it's just me who's the saddo that doesn't get it :?: :shrug
No need to answer that.

I think that it is because not everyone sees these cars as something special.

In particular Z4 owners for whom their Zed's are just a means of getting from A to B.

The vast majority of Z3 owners are probably completely unaware of any sort of appreciation or following for their cars. They see their car as being just another cheap car, no different than a Fiesta or a Clio. If you flash or wave they haven't a clue why you are doing it and you are just as likely to get a glare (or worse!).

I think we have a long way to go before they are acknowledged as a classic where owners will nod and wave when they see another. As much as we like them, 99% of the population see Z3s as just an old car.

I've not bothered making the first wave to a Z3 for ages.

Exactly. I once had a Midget and the camaraderie was widespread, as it is among Se7en drivers when I (rarely) drive my Westfield on the road, but Zs are driven by very reserved people it seems. :?

Disgraceful - it should be compulsory Z3 especially - Z4 not sure as most of them are far from rare, except the Z4MC of course ;-)

I always flash and wave too when in Z3 and also Z4MC and actually when in the 135i M Sport coupe too.............have to remember which one I'm in though!!

I wave to Z3's, but I only flash my lights if there is no danger of confusing other drivers. I occasionally get a wave back, or at least a look of utter confusion.

The Z4 drivers round here never wave, and most of them probably wouldn't know they car they are driving is even related to mine, so I'm afraid I have given up with them.

It is a stark contrast when driving the frog - everything waves to that! :D

I find that UK Z3/Z4 owners are a pretty miserable crowd, and even on top of a mountain pass in the alps, with no other cars for miles, most are either ill-mannered, or trying to look 'cool' to return a wave.

I still wave when I see a Z in Europe, but am usually ignored the Brits unless it is on the approaches to a Z or BMW gathering etc.

Z4 owners will only wave at themselves in shop windows, and that's only if they accidentally catch a glance of their reflection whilst looking at Breitlings and other such materials goods they wish to purchase and show off to the world.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

I always wave at Z3's. Never Z4's, as said above, a lot of Z4 owners see them as an everyday car so little camaraderie stands. Certainly give more waves out than I receive. Your all a bunch of miserable gits!! :D
