why you changed all the calipers in both cars?
i have never changed brake calipers in any car (except for upgrading reasons)
and it's not just you, i have seen many do this.. am i missing something here?

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
I have had 2 stick on both cars in the last 3 months so a total refurb of them all (they were all very rusty)... Refurbing is much cheaper than new (especially with my shot blasting mate) and when they have been refurbished you can paint them to finish them off - always makes them stand out much moreInferno wrote:why you changed all the calipers in both cars?

I now have a complete set of Z3 callipers (not the //m ones) and I am considering refurbishing them and selling them to make some of the cost back, just need to see if anyone out there is interested in a new set..
Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
I think the wetness (+mud + salt) here causes the issues, never had sticky calipers when I was in Greece or South Africa but common place here.Inferno wrote:why you changed all the calipers in both cars?

I can think of many good things like the road over Pentelis down to Nea Makri.Inferno wrote:ah ok! never thought about that, there is at least one good thing living in Greece...
I miss that road, simply awesome...then stop at 'to petrino' for kalamkia on the way back!
Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Yeah i know what you mean, it's a classic petrolhead's route (i always prefered greek riviera, glyfada to cape sounio), also there was an excellent tavern across "petrino" named "serifis" the sheriff in english, it was the feast meeting point of the greek bmw forum once upon a time.

All you chaps seem to be getting 6 months' road tax. Why not get annual, but pay monthly by DD? It costs the same and you can cancel early or let it run an extra month if the weather is good.
And I got two air vents for the top of the dash.

Hi Koolflyer it looks as if your drop links are worn as well. The Meyle ones are very good quality when I changed mine. made a good difference to the handling as well.

Hi Brian
Thanks for your input, that's exactly what we thought when RockyDave and I did the job. I'll order some Meyle drop links and replace those ARB bushes too next week. I am still getting a little shudder through the steering wheel if a wheel runs over a badly patched up piece of road. I know I used to my super smooth E91 which lets face it is a lot more advanced. Its has new tyres all around, tracked and balanced, new poly bushes on the control arms and new track rod ends. I'll definately do as you suggest next week plus the ARB bushes, other than that I suppose I'm looking at the shocks and finally the steering box. RockyDave's has a small tendancy to shudder over a bump but not as much as mine. Perhaps I'm expecting too much of of a pretty 'old school' car, but I don't remember my old E36 319is coupe behaving the same way (but it was 15 years ago!).
Pete
Brian, Meyle drop links ordered, what ARB bushes did you use? OEM or poly? I have purple polys on the control arms.

Hi Pete
I haven't changed the ARB bushes yet as mine were still tight . I was going to put standard rubber ones on though just to keep the ride not too harsh. I have polybushh control arm bushes just for ease of changing. Hope you get sorted. There is some wobble over really bumpy roads but much better than before changing the drop links. Have a look it the rears as well

Brian, when I do the drop links next week I'll check the ARB's. I've heard that probably its best to keep the standard OEM bushes rather than make things too harsh?

one of the easiest jobs on the car, undo two nuts, drop the bracket and the old rubber bush has a split along its length to just pull off at 90 degrees to the ARB. then open the split up on the new ones, feed them over the bar and bolt the bracket back on. I took the ARB off completely, wire brushed and painted it only because I had the drop links off as well but the arb bushes can be done in situ

A "chemical decoke", courtesy of Terraclean.
Since I brought the Zed out of hibernation in April I've noticed that throttle response was a bit tardy for example when you blipped the throttle the revs didn't fall as quickly as they should. A trip to Tuna garage in Keyworth, Notts. for a Terraclean "chemical decoke" sorted the problem
Mechanic Paul did a great job and really knew his stuff, the car now runs better and in particular pulls away much more smoothly. All ready for next week's trip to the Spa Classic in Belgium
