Zed cruise & meet with "Just Jane" Sunday 3rd July 2016

Rocky Dave and myself are taking our Zed's over to see the Lanc at East Kirkby on Sunday 3rd July next year. However, whilst in the pub the other night, and after some very successful meets with an aviation theme over the last couple of years, plus popular demand we have came up with this idea.

A cruise and Zed meet over at East Kirkby, Lincs. to see Avro Lancaster NX611 "Just Jane". She will be starting all four Merlins at around 1400, have a taxi around the airfield and return to its apron and shut down.....right in front of you. There is a small museum about 'Bomber Country' and a good NAAFI style cafe. Furthermore, it is a special squadron reunion day that day, so there I dare say there will be a lot of folk with interesting stories! I have also arranged a separate parking area so the Z3/4's can be parked altogether. Price is normally £7.50 per person, but if we get 25 cars or so that will probably come down to £5.50 per person. I don't want to get too bogged down with arrangements, but we will be coming from near Loughborough along the A46 to Newark and then east onto the A17 towards Sleaford. We aim to get to East Kirkby at 1100 to allow enough time to have a look around, bite to eat and a chat. If anyone wants to join us this will be our route:

Depart Six Hills hotel car park (A46) 0830
Arrive Newark lorry park 0915 (See map)
Depart Newark lorry park 0930
Arrive East Kirkby 1100

My mrs works in the naffy at the aviation museum. I'd recommend the Props and Pistons show you can also display your zeds and probably get a discount through that. The air displays are great there as well

I will try to get to the East Kirkby Air Show on Saturday 6th August but I'm straight off a busy night shift at EMA, so will see if I can scrounge an early go

. I've just spoken to Louise at East Kirkby who explained that the Air Show is a prebooked event (Tickets £17pp) and it will be busy. She reckoned a normal 'close up' taxi day, such as Sunday 3rd July, including group parking of our cars would probably be better and certainly less crowded.

I travel to Bedford most weeks from mine, so I go across the woodhead and the down the M1,A57and A1 to Newark (or as close as the A1 is to it...

Happy to deviate the route but I accept that we are very north Cheshire (did people know Cheshire went that high?!) and appreciate that any deviation means an earlier set off

Hi Pete - the mix of aviation and Zeds is a good one, we really enjoyed the event at East Mids with you a while back.

Hi bertiejaffa. I would normally take the M58 - M6 -A50 (15) and on towards Nottingham and then Sleaford and on-to East Kirkby.
I am based in Scarisbrick,West Lancashire and would pick-up the M58 motorway in Skelmersdale and then a short hop to the M6 South.
