Alas an expensive month.. abs module repaired @ £191.. MOT, insurance and tax.. also bought a pair of rear wings and a front wing to stockpile, a windbreaker, a 3 series space saver wheel and a new tyre to go on it, a non bump boot carpet set, new aerial grommet, headlight eyebrows and a stainless steel mesh lower grill for front bumper.. now skint so new tyres and steering wheel refurb will have to wait until next month lol!!!

Fitted a new set of rear pads today.. didn't really need them (wear wise) but l know the previous owner had new discs and pads all round and my gut feeling is that the pads were very cheap pattern ones as l have always thought the cars brakes were somewhat lacking. Just replacing the front pads lasy week completely transformed the braking so l felt that changing the rears might improve things more. Will take it for a spin later and see how it fares.

Whilst under the rear of the car l found it almost unbelievable that a 17 year old car cold be so clean and rust free underneath.. even the exhaust looks like that on a 2 year old car!! The previous keeper owned it for 8 years and only used it in the summer months and it only came out on dry days.. l have maintained that for thd last 3 years and it has obviously paid off.

The car was bought as a retirement project.. l'm not a great mechanic but l enjoy a tinker, and l love driving thd car.. best investment l've ever made.

Downside is that l've got a bit obsessive and been stockpiling parts.. have l become an anorak?

New (2nd hand) boot carpet arrived.. the set without the cd changer 'bump' which l've been after for some time.. found on eBay and won with a bid of £27 which l thought was a bargain. I was even more delighted when l opened the parcel and found they were in very good condition.. result!

A new auxiliary water pump. The old one failed and I lost nearly all the coolant. Gauge went from normal to the red in about two miles  .

Did you know that the same part is fitted to the Jaguar XK8 supercharger cooling system?

£40 from a Jaguar dismantler. My pump motor was OK, so I swapped the pump heads and avoided having to mess with the wiring.

I completely stripped down the coolant system, flushed it through, and drained off a bit of oil to check for water. Everything was ok. It could have been so much worse.

Ordered this small ragtop cover.
For some reason here in the States they are 3 times the price.
Oh we'll always happy to spend ££ back in the home country.

front wheel alinement, 4 new tyres to replace the 4 odd tyres, the wheel alinement to make the most of the new wishbones and ball joints and drop arms I fitted the other week, which followed the chrome door handles and oil for gearbox and diff, which followed the engine oil and all filters, which followed the seat belt guides which followed the floor mats and loads of polish and missing trim covers and trim clips and bonnet catches and cables and a obd2 reader and workshop manuals and fuel filler cap locking cable which all came about because I got me self a titan silver 2.2 Z3
still kept me busy through the winter only got to remove the sill on o/s to bash some dents out may leave that till this winter

I've noticed people struggle with blue on BMW. The general result is always Estoril Blue regardless of what you ask for - the only sure way of a match is to take a sample from under the chair and send it to them to match

Not been on here for a good while.....

Today had brake overhaul.....replacement discs pads all round plus rear shoes, wear sensors (all pagid) & fluid....oh and a front nearside caliperswapped out for new.

Tomorrow having 4 new tyres......Going to try Nexen N'Fera SU1.....Non Sport 2.2i so 225/50/16. Will post a small write up on the tyres once scrubbed in and driven properly wet & dry.

Also just sourced a salvage centre vents as original suddenly cracked a while back.

Not much change from £700 but money well spent

Immaculate and rust-free, rear offside, narrow body wing already painted in Arctic Silver. The existing one has had a poor repair in the past as it shows poorly sanded filler and rust. I’ve already bought two new OE sills (BMW had surplus UK stock and were selling at a discount). All to be painted on their undersides with Por 15 – which I find bullet-proof. Bit of work on the front bumper chips and then the car is back to showroom condition. :D

A pair of door cards. The drivers door card on the Z3 I bought recently had a nasty bodged repair so needed a replacement. Couldn't find one the same - all black leather/vinyl - so I've bought a pair of black cards with the anthracite material middle sections which I think will look good. If so I'll have an all black passenger door card for sale!

Had a very lumpy tick over and the culprit turned out to be this...

It was so perished it broke up during removal..

£12 for new one from dealer wasn't too painful but fiddly to fit

Car now runs as sweet as a nut.. happy days!!

As It passed its MOT last week (hardly surprising as its only covered 600 miles since its last one), I thought I should freshen up a few bits that started to look a bit tatty:

£102 for a new gear knob ( why are they so expensive? ) :

Image

As well as a new boot lid roundel as the original had started to delaminate slightly :

Image

I have also just ordered a new braided clutch hose, as the original is starting to get spongy when hot. I'll get Grosvenor of Reading to fit this when they do the bushes.

That's it for the moment.

Hi there Renaud,
Is that an OEM roundel youve bought or an internet site replacement, the quality looks superb and my bonnet badge is now looking very tired indeed.. having my bodywork sprayed in and tidied up this week so a new bonnet badge will complete the look..

Regards Jeremy.

Hello Jeremy,

Both parts are genuine BMW from main dealers, the cheapest I could find was from Soper's of Lincoln. Part number for the boot lid roundel is 51141872969, at a cost of £33.37 including VAT and postage. Its probably worth checking the exact part number you need on realoem.com, as there may be differences between the models

If you look at the photo on my previous post, the fitted roundel on the left is the new one, with the old one on the right starting to delaminate between the B and the M.

Hope that helps.

The badges are much cheaper on ebay - they might not last as long but with the saving you will make you can afford to change them every year
