S52 engine? Am I correct in thinking that this was the "M" engine used in the US instead of the S50 engine used (in earlier Z3ms) in Europe. The S52 being a bored out and tweaked 2.8 M52 engine without the full power/performance of the S50 M division engine?
Z1s are very rare - would a non-standard conversion like this reduce its value to potential buyers/collectors? It does sound a very thorough, all-round conversion though and I would guess a very nice drive.

Correct the S52 was custom-built for the US-version E36 M3. At 240hp/240lbft it is a nice performance mix when paired with the right gear ratio and diff. S52 performance below 100mph is generally equivalent to the S54 but it loses ground to S54 above that.Del wrote:S52 engine? Value is always subjective. Any used car--collector or not--is worth exactly what a buyer is willing to pay for it. "Pure collectors" want a stock configuration, so it definitely will affect the attraction of the car for them. However, there are plenty of very low mileage stock cars held by collectors for the last 2 1/2 decades, so any car with more than a couple thousand miles is in another category. A well-done resto-mod like this appeals to another category of buyer (like Jet and me), so could well be worth a premium over a similar mileage stock car.Del wrote:Z1s are very rare - would a non-standard conversion like this reduce its value to potential buyers/collectors? Just my $.02 (US slang for just my opinion...)
